My wife is going to murder me. How do I fix this. Used a vinegar solution to kill the weeds.

Vinegar is acidic so it could have possibly done damage to the stones

  2. Now spray ALL the pavers with vinegar and it will match. Then after it fades for a while, put on a sealer.

I warn people about this every time some “chemical-free” or “natural” person — they always have an aversion to mechanical removal, have you ever noticed? — mentions vinegar.

Looks like it destroyed the sealant and the area is wet now maybe you may be able to reseal it. Use weed killer, glyphosate works great, home made is almost always useless and wasteful.

You’re right to worry. I’d contact a local stone person to look at it ASAP. Vinegar is acidic and corrosive (and the horticultural strength is even stronger), especially on softer type natural stones, creating the stains you see along with roughing up/softening the surface. Doesn’t bother granite so much but will eat into the sealant. I’m not sure if they’ll need to neutralize the acid to stop further damage or not.

Just pull the weeds, hose off the area and walk away like nothing happened. Then act surprised about it if she ever says anything.

Use a weed killer instead of bullshit homeopathic natural mommy blog concoctions.

  8. For future reference, hot water or a torch to lightly cook the leaves works great.

Vinegar is very mild. Comments re damaging the stone or pavers is silly.

Really vinegar did that ? You didn’t happen to put to put a ton dawn soap or oil in the mixture ? I use vi over all the time and never seen that happen . It’s dry right ? lol .. I’d get some hot water and a scrub brush with just some dish detergent in it and give the areas a good scrub . Maybe it’s a surface thing . I’d also investigate in an unnoticeable spot and gently chip away to see how far down the darkness penetrated . Maybe a light dusting with sandpaper could get rid of it . After you find a solution, I’d definitely get a sealer put on that walk , it’s obviously very porous and needs protection from sun and weather

And like a few days from now, those same weeds are going to start regrowing. Someone told me to use vinegar as a weed killer one time. I was like wtf is this, its not really a weed killer, more like a chemical prune.

Yup! Wife did this to our stamped concrete around the pool and it def damaged them.

  13. Diluting it by hosing it down with a lot of water will probably help. I use a strong salt, vinegar (the 30% one), dish soap concoction to kill poison ivy in a stone/ concrete path area. It’s always been fine once it’s dry. If you still have issues, I’d probably treat the entire pathway with the same thing. Dawn dish soap is slightly basic, and water is pH neutral, so those will likely help buffer the acidity of vinegar.

  14. I use half and half of regular store bought vinegar and water to spray weeds and it has never discolored my pavers.

It’s the soap you put into it.

Personally, I’d try cleaning it with simple green and a brush. Then I’d power wash it. Not sure what else to do. Stone is porous, so the vinegar is definitely IN the stone.

These weeds, I would have just pulled by hand though. No need for chemicals for cracks of a walkway. At minimum a flathead screw driver would have been a better option.

    Too late now though. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If yiu look with your eyes closed. Can’t even see the marks from the vinegar

Try some baking soda and water, make a paste and brush it in. Rinse away. If that doesn’t work, you’re probably calling a mason to replace the stone.

  18. FinanciallySecure9

Make a TikTok. Post it. Let it go viral. Make money to replace the pavers.

I honestly can’t figure out what the damage to the stones looks like

My dad used to send us kids out with screwdrivers to pull weeds that were in the cracks…have you considered having children? ☠️

How long after you sprayed vinegar was this picture taken??? Minutes/hours/days??

  22. brandocommando95

Could you just use boiling water next time? Been thinking about this for my small section of gravel

  23. lumpiestofchubs

That’s what you get for not just yanking them out. C’mon man that would’ve taken you less than 5 minutes
