I hate nuts edge with a passion. Especially when it grows in non grassy areas.

  1. I’ve always wondered, if you pull it often enough, will the nut simply run out of energy reserves and die eventually?

My wife just spent an afternoon pulling up nutsedge in our beds. So I’m about to have a nutsedge nursery.

If they ever come up with a use for it, I’m going to be a very wealthy man.

  3. I’ve always pulled it. My neighbor has been over ran with it for years.

Here is my experience. Some years it doesn’t show up at all.

When it does it’s always concentrated in one area. I pull the outer parameter inward over the course of a week or so. Like I’ll stop and put 3 or so minutes in after a dog walk or something. I usually try and time it to be gone before the mow.

Eventually it’s all gone for a week. It might pop up on the other side of the yard or that area had some fighters. Sometimes the main area will last a month before it gives up. Repeat. I’ve genuinely have never had an issue with this way.

However, since it’s always early in their life for me the “nut” is very easy to pull with it. I rarely ever break the plant.

You can pull it. You just have to be consistent. Older plants that have shoots underground will sprout again. Just pull those sprouts too. Repeat until gone. Brand new plants won’t usually make shoots for a while (a few months) so they can be pulled young without going hydra on you.

Or you can use chemicals. Whatever. It’s fine.
