Never knew what they came from but when I was a kid we’d use them as “grenades”. Pop the stem off and chunk it

  2. When I was a kid I had a German Shepherd that would go through chewing up a barrel of these. We had a tree in the back yard. The flowers are pretty awesome in the spring.

Magnolia grandiflora seed pod. Southern Magnolia.

  4. These are just as fun to throw as dirt clods from a lawn aerator at opposing neighbor forts.

I had an adorable puppy who would proudly bring these home and bury them in my yard.

Magnolia seed pod. Magnolias have always been one of my favorite plants, alongside giant Sequoias and ferns. Magnolias as a special are so ancient that their most effective pollinator is beetles, because the tree evolved before bees did. I love their waxy leaves, as a kid I always climbed under their low branches and pretended I had a fort to myself. I love magnolias

Looks like the dried up seed pod from a magnolia tree.
