I was at this lake fishing. Some kids were scooping water, sludge, and sticks into jars and sealing them. After talking with them for a bit, they ended up giving me one. I threw it on the shelf. Forgot about it for about a year. Looks like everything is dead now. Any chance there's still life? There's this little red ball That's been there the entire time.

You could do this again, but leave it on a windowsill to make it stay alive longer!
This one is barely still kicking… i would put it in the sun for a lil while to see if anything wakes up. Seems to mainly be decomp tho.
That green thing looks like nostoc pruniforme, though im not entirely sure from the pictures.
Little red ball sounds like sperm containing structure of stonewort, so theres some chance these interesting multicellular algae will appear.
Maybe try to take stabilized video to see if anything moves in there? Microscopic lifeforms like rotifers, ciliates, paramecium etc – bigger ones can even be visible without magnifying.
Some critters such as copepods and ostracods are attracted to light during the night, so you can try looking at the jar with flashlight.
