Hello! I’ve always wondered why the string of pearls at my local greenhouse and the one I grow looks different. The first picture is the one from the greenhouse. The pearls are larger, rounder, and more matte. The second one is mine (please excuse the yellow sticky trap- I have fungus gnats) and the pearls are more pointy, shiny, and small. It’s near a south-facing window and I don’t water unless the windows of the pearls are closed.

Thank you for the help in advance! It’s been a great curiosity of mine.

Honestly, string of pearls remind me of children – they won’t look exactly like the parent. My initial string of pearls is also more oval towards the base of the plant; newer pearls are more round but small. My other string of pearls is a propagation from my initial one and its pearls are so big and perfectly round with a decently prickly point on top of the pearls. I believe string of pearls take on a more elongated shape when they’ve gone through too many dry periods and that would make sense why my propagation is so round (my watering habits are better now than when I bought the initial plant). I hope someone else knows better and chimes in, I’d be interested to learn more too!
