Hello! My wife recently gave me the go ahead to build a greenhouse.

We’re from a tropical climate and new to winter freezes (8a) so greenhouses weren’t really a thing back home.

I’d like to build it so I can stand comfortably at 6’2”. I have no idea what I’m doing. If building it the way I want is better than buying something that screws together. Placement options are limited and I don’t even know if it would work because it’s on a hill.

I have plenty of room in the woods but I’d risk limbs falling on it and also it wouldn’t get sun in the summer.

I want to do this right, and not have to worry about rebuilding it a few years later. I really would love an irrigation system to time waterings and all that, so I wonder how that would work if I bought a prefab one. I also would love rain collection to use in that system as well if that’s feasible. Been very rainy lately.

Anyway, I have some pics of my year one garden and where I was thinking of putting the greenhouse. With a pic of another spot showing the woods and an alternative location, albeit a little close to the trees if you ask me.

I truly appreciate any advice or help you all could impart! This would feed my little girls berries and tomato’s year round, I hope!

Looks like you have raised beds back in the trees, what grows there? Those look like they are all deciduous trees so you would get more sun in the winter and some shade in the summer (but maybe too much).

It’s hard to tell from the photos how much slope you have, but you would have to level or dig in the higher parts. Digging in means over dig and retaining walls of you want to use common commercial models, or building something partly in ground, which is not a bad idea.
