Locking Primary School has earned the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Level Three School Gardening Award, which celebrates its dedication to sustainable gardening and engaging pupils in hands-on environmental education.

Roxanne Simpson, headteacher at Locking Primary, said: “We’re delighted to receive this award.

“Our outdoor spaces are a vital part of school life, offering our children hands-on experiences that support their wellbeing, curiosity and understanding of the natural world.

“This recognition reflects our school values in action – teamwork, care for our environment, and a love of learning that extends well beyond the classroom.”

The award highlights the school’s efforts to extend its range of plants, maintain healthy growth and use environmentally friendly gardening methods.

Much of the success is credited to Amy Clark and the school’s ‘allotment fairies,’ who have worked to keep the gardens thriving.

To mark the achievement, the RHS has presented the school with a certificate, a gardening book for its library, and a selection of seeds for future projects.

The school plans to continue expanding its outdoor learning spaces and environmental activities.
