I’m just kidding (mostly).
Why in the world has my peperomia given up on making new leaves and has exclusively been putting up spikes? The leaves it does produce are teeny tiny and crescent shaped…. I tried to trim the spikes for a while to encourage leaf growth but now I’ve given up and am letting it do it’s thing.

It’s flowering spikes. No point in cutting those, they will not be replaced by leaves.

Without those spikes, new leafs cannot form! It has to lay the railroad track before the train can go through!

    Patience, my handsome Jedi!

It reminds me of little shop of horrors 😂

Those are flower spikes. Leave them or cut them off. The plant was putting a lot of energy into making flowers. It’s an indication that it’s really happy where it is.

People always feel like their plants should grow a specific way on this sub and then post the most unique and abstract growth of their healthy plants asking for help. Always makes me laugh. Let her do her thing, shes super fun to look at right now.

I genuinely thought this was the circlejerk sub until I looked 😭

It could be a sign the roots have filled the pot and it’s trying to reproduce a way other than expanding, but if those look good and it’s otherwise healthy, should do this about once a year.

Mine does this every spring/summer! She’s just blooming 😎

I wouldn’t say *ugly*, it’s interesting and looks like it’s getting somewhere.

Your plant looks unique. I see plant growth on the spikes. I am learning too. I would have done the same thing you did and cut the spikes off not realizing that is new growth. If you open the picture up you can see tiny growth on them. Besides now you have a name for your plant and call it Spike(Not Ugly)Thank you for showing the difference in this plant to learn from 🪴

How can you say that! Plants can feel what you think about them. Never ever say that specifically to something this gorgeous
