My dream is a yard that is designed in such a way it does not require weed eating. The first step is mowing strips, what is your take on these? What is your product of choice?

If it was my grass it would only grow on the other side of that strip.

  2. Yes, lot easier to mower and the edge looks better.

Yay all day but with plastic edging adjacent on the outside to prevent the grass from creeping into the cracks. That was my big mistake years ago.

Mowing strips are great to run the wheel on but eventually the grass starts to curl over them which requires the string trimmer to come out. Also eventually you will get grass or weeds trying to grow between them once some dirt and dust accumulates in the joints.

  5. Doing one right now and I’m going to put mortar down and in between.

My lawn has a concrete edge around the perimeter in the back and front. I drop one side and ride the edge to rather than use a weed eater.

Ex Garden edger here, just some advice for depth.

Depending on your grass type, ensure you have embedded the brick (or concrete) far enough to prevent the shoots getting through to the garden bed. I usually say 150-200mm as a minimum below dirt level. You might get one runner here and there get though, but better than being overwhelmed.

As an example I have couch grass, I’ve had 2 shoots get into my garden in the past 5 years, so not bad. Quick poison and there gone.

In my brain it works just like this and is amazing. I’m about to do my entire lawn perimeter. But I suspect in reality I’d have to dig the bricks in at a minimum.
