05:46 New Garden Thrift Finds- I need your input!!- the rest of tour and more thrift ideas

[Music] hi everyone welcome to Illinois and garden zone 5 for our November Garden Tour so we are actually at the tail end of October and when you see this this weekend it will be November already and we have had some beautiful colors this fall that I want to take you around the garden and show you we have a gorgeous maple tree up front that is in its full full Glory that I want to show you that beautiful color here in the Midwest also show you some of the things that are still blooming the latest Thrift finds I picked up something yesterday for the back Garden need your opinion on it I’m thinking it needs some some uh spray paint but I need to decide on the color so I’m hoping you’ll weigh in and tell me what color you think it needs to be also uh picked up a thrift find on my 12-hour thrifting day a couple weeks ago and we have that we’re going to have out in the garden today I want to show you the raised Cut Flower Garden um we did have some Frost already now here in Illinois a couple couple nights it’s gotten pretty chilly So In The Cut Flower Garden since there are mostly raised beds a lot of that stuff then uh did freeze out in the frost but I seated something rather late in the season and to my surprise it is starting to flower now and Bloom so I want to show you that because it’s really pretty and then we’ll take a walk around the back garden and check out how everything’s looking so let’s get going let’s check out those thrift things too okay so I want to start out in the front look at the maple tree now these are actually two maple trees I purchased at the same time they were probably about 3 foot tall little sticks when I got them and they were supposed to be the same variety but they ended up being different varieties and so we they are both red Maples but they change colors at different times okay so from this side of it we’re in more of the shade now but you can see all the different colors on there and I’m sure the camera is just not even doing it justice it is just beautiful and this knockout rose is at the front of the house and look how well it is doing for November it is really pretty the roses in the back and the ground are blooming again and then in the beds here um we still have some Salvia we still have lavender snapdragons back in the back uh they have a few blooms on them but not a whole lot and uh look how well the two terracotta pots with the olive trees are doing now the olive trees will not make it outside over winter so every year I carry them into the basement or I have a helper carry them into the basement and over winter overwinter them in the basement so we’ll have to see what we do this year I did check and they are safe for cats um but they’re getting really big and so they’re really heavy to be hauling in and out and they take up a lot of room but I hate to lose them too so I may be taking those in uh the surprise plant that I have I think this is Oxford Blue Salvia which I had I had showed you earlier in the season in that bed across there and it was just gorgeous and I’m pretty sure I brought some seeds over here and put some here to see if it would grow uh I did cut like one of these and then you just take off the bottom to put it in water and they last a long time and they really give a fresh flower arrangement some pretty color and texture we do still have some roses blooming um I want to show you this pretty one over here this is called cous and it’s a maybo k Rose and I got it at Home Depot and this is its second season look at that beautiful flower and of course the name alone tells you that it’s very very very fragrant so I did get the roses in the back cleaned up so we can now see the mirror on the fence last month’s tour we I mentioned we couldn’t even see the mirror anymore because I had the Roses had grown so much over the season that had blocked it and it also blocked the little lady statue the little girl statue so I got those cleaned up and now we can see her uh as I was walking around today though boy this pink rose caught my eye this is the sitting pretty and she is still looking beautiful look at the color on her love that for November late October November we still have um our flocks is still blooming so thrilled about that and then over here do you see the Serendipity Alum would you know that that Alum is spray painted if this is your first time stopping by so if you want to make your alums after they’re done blooming last even longer you can get spray paint and spray paint those flower heads and the bees don’t even realize it I’ve had bees fly up to them and check them out too okay our Thrift fine guys yesterday’s Thrift fine I have been looking for something to go behind my lady on the fence these two arbores um are spaced farther apart so I’m not sure if they’ll ever close in we may always have that Gap and I thought she needed something but I’m not sure about that color I don’t think the black is doing anything I’m thinking it needs to be spray painted cream and that would blend with her and also the trellis uh what do you think do you think the cream would look better let me know below and of course I haven’t got to it yet because I just got it yesterday but I did have a nail already on the fence because I had tried some other things that I had purchased and didn’t like anything so far and I can see it from my kitchen window which will be nice to see but before long I will be putting her away for wintertime some of my least you know less expensive items I leave out over winter because I like having stuff out in the garden uh to look at even though there’s not flowers it gives some interest but on some of my more expensive stuff I do store that so the lady will get stored now on the David Austin Roses you’ve got to see this this was the other Thrift find if you went with me on my 12-hour Adventure you know that I picked this up and look at the Olivia Austin Rose she is bending into the boscabel rose and creating an arch so when I was looking for a spot for this column just for a design element just to give it some structure out in the garden I like it up against the Arbor VES that white against the Green but look how it just kind of frames it in so I was like thank you Olivia that looks cute and I didn’t even take the price tag off of it yet guys I got it out of the back of the car and then just carried it out here and you’re going to ask me if that’s going to hold up because it’s probably plaster it would not weather very well over winter but I only paid $3.99 for it so I may leave it out as an experiment to see how well it does and for that price I’m willing to you know sacrifice that to have some winter interest and stuff to look at out in the garden the pumpkins are still looking cute in the urns I like doing that this year for something different instead of doing plants for fall and then having those faux leaves in there uh be before long we’ll be switching those out though for some holiday stuff now look down here this I like and it was a proven winners annual and I think it’s truffle pink but I could be wrong so comment below if you know what this is let me get you a closeup of it it’s got little flower heads all over it they work really nice in fresh flower arrangements I’ve trimmed them up it does kind of fall down though kind of lean over so those little uh columns which those I picked up at Hobby Lobby they use them for their displays and they were clearing in them out for a couple dollars so I got a set of four of them but it also is nice to prop plants up so I’ve used them on the Roses I’ve used them on this and um will they last probably not very well because they are plaster but for a couple dollars I think it adds some more to the garden and is double purpose it’s holding up the the flower too now do you need a gorgeous Rose I’ll put the name on the screen for you but I absolutely love this Rose I’ve had it for a couple years and she does wonderful and she smells good and I should say if you want a gorgeous Rose say like a peachy pink color um very disease resistant look at the folage on her the glare that we’re getting is off of my other mirror my French mirror that I bought and put on the fence i’ I’ve enjoyed having that there and having it as a backdrop for the roses and that was a thrift find so always be looking for unique things that really may not be Garden things but you can per repurpose and use out in your garden and we still have the fountain out I haven’t put it away yet we’ve only had a couple nights where it’s gotten cold before long I will have to put it away when we start getting repeated nights of cold temperatures it is resin and I had a a previous resin one and if you leave them out in our Zone it did crack and then it I wasn’t able to use it again so I do store the fountain but I’m trying to get all the use I can out of it and I do have it on a timer so it automatically comes on and shuts off and then the other day funny story I looked out the window in the morning and it was full of bubbles like soapy Bubbles and I’m like oh my gosh what happened so I asked John I’m like did you do something to the Fountain and he said oh well I was trying to clean it and he says I think I grabbed the wrong thing and then he goes do you like it and I said well there was a lot of bubbles I don’t know how the birds felt about having a bubble bath instead of having a place to perch but they did some side as the day went on it has just been a glorious last couple weeks here in the fall for the Midwest we have beautiful color and um just really thrilled with how the garden has turned out this season with all the color and thrilled that it’s November this week and still having the color that we have and the nice temperatures to be able to be outside and enjoy them this before we start getting that cold wet snowy weather well thanks for hanging out with me today in this November I almost said October but October’s almost done this November Garden Tour guys I hope you enjoyed it uh I hope you still have some color in your yards and leave me a comment below on what color should I paint the new wall art behind my lady statue what color do you think cream or leave it black let me know have a great week everyone [Music]

  1. No the cream will not be a contrast for your statue, I like it better in that color, your garden still looks very good for this time . I love seeing your all your finds

  2. Michelle, your garden looks great for November. The flower you asked about I think it may be Gomphrena. I love it I had 2 plants in my garden this year. I think the piece should be a darker color. Either black or May a beautiful green. Have a great week 💜💜💜

  3. Oh my goodness Michelle I’m so glad I found your channel. The maple tree is stunning!!!! The algorithm has been hiding you from me. I’m enjoying your videos with my cup of tea. Can’t wait to see more. 💙💚💛🧡❤️💜 Liz

  4. Your garden is stunning! I was looking for vintage/ cottage decor for gardens and YouTube brought up your channel. I have been watching you for ideas. I just subscribed, so I'm excited to see how you put things together!! P.S. I love the little storage "house" in your yard. Where did you get it?
