Only way to remove it without damage is to Break the glass

  2. LOL – that’s definitely a “break the glass” situation. Imagine how much damage it would take to get that out.

But hey, NICE ROOTS IN THAT LECA!!

I had a similar situation with a globe vase. I wrapped it tight in duct tape and took a hammer to it gently. It helped quite a bit, but I still had some little shards

*break glass in case of emergency*

Garbage bag and a hammer or equivalent tool in the bathtub. Been there before haha

That’s really weird looking but awesome. Video when you break it open so we can see how much is really in there. Science experiment? A++

Don’t be afraid to break it out! I had to once!

I think this can be jiggled out. Some minimal root breakage is not the end of the world as monsteras are so hardy.

I think, take a plastic bendable knife or similar and wedge it in against the glass to dislodge the pebbles and roots so they are more loose, then tip and agitate the glass to pour out the pebbles. Then gently jiggle the plant out, very slowly.

I was in your situation recently with another plant and was able to free up the roots with a chopstick. I just went around the jar and gently freed up the roots. It didn’t take much time or effort and it saved the jar and unnecessary clean up.

I would submerge the jar under water and tip it on its side. The pebbles should start to loosen up / dislodge under the water and you should be able to gently tip all of the contents of the jar out

    It’s hammer time

Put a towel or a bag over it and get a hammer and wack it gently.

    Option 1 – You don’t.

Option 2 – you wrap the glass in a towel, and gently tap it with a hammer to break it free without damaging the roots.

Wrap the jar in a dish towel before you break it to keep the glass shards contained.

Had the same situation with an actual monstera last week. Wraped the glass with some nice paper and gave it a lovely whac with a hammer!

    Cheers!

  16. Wrap it up in an old damp rag and bust it open. Throw the rag and glass away.

there’s no need to break it. just tip the jar, hold onto the plant and shake the balls out

Wrap it in good tape then break it. Tape will make the clean up easy

Get a box and line it with a garbage bag. Then put the glass inside of the garbage bag and break it. Congrats. You’ve avoided a giant mess, glass going everywhere, you can easily toss it in your trash can, label the box with BROKEN GLASS and have a free monstera.

Okay so how attached are you to that jar? 😅
