We have nearly an acre of grass/weeds lawn, with a few established traditional southern flower beds scattered about, courtesy of the previous owner.
I have taken the slow and steady approach to converting the front lawn to (mostly) native ground cover, flowers, shrubs and sedges. I’m aiming for a sort of English cottage garden look, when it’s eventually finished.
This is my front garden, 10 months into the endeavor.
I’m in love with this little slice of heaven in a sea of monoculture. I’m doing my best to remain patient and stay the slow and steady course, when my natural inclination is to rush around and plant here, there, and everywhere at once, all willy-nilly.
I’m in Southside, VA zone 7b. I’ve included some before and progress pics.

This is beautiful! This is a good reminder of why I should continue working on mine.
Lovely, well done. I need some of your patience!
This garden is shaping up to be a magical place 😍
No NSFW tag? xD
Every bit of converting lawn to native plants is a win. The advantage of starting with a penis shape is that next year you can convert a really big part of your lawn to native and it’ll be easier because it has two sides of garden to bolster the new area(s).
