Hello,
Let me preface/contextualise this by saying I am very much a beginner where it comes to plants. I couldnโt really invest in plants in the past few years because my cat was a little chomper (he loved plantsโฆ specifically chewing on them) – so when he passed I thought a Monstera adansonii would make for a great tribute as since all the holes remind me of his little bites.
So I got this plant yesterday and it looked good in store – it was from a reputable local shop and the owner is well known in the city for being knowledgeable. He even told me that she was growing really well since being in store.
Yesterday was really warm and thereโs been big temperature shifts (earlier in the week the temperature was 16C/60F and yesterday it was up to 29C/84F (I am in Scotland).
Re watering I checked the soil when I got home and it felt fully dry so I soaked it for 30 min as recommended in store. The pot has draining holes.
I had it briefly by the window (SW facing) when it was sunny out and then moved it into indirect light (my house doesnโt get that much sun/heat to be fair). Within hours of purchasing I noticed some of the leaves starting to wrinkle and some mottling on one of the leaves (see second photo). This morning I feel like it looks even more wrinkled at the edges. (I misted it this morning)
This is my first monstera ๐ญ Is it shock from getting moved and the heat that weโve been having? Is there anything I can do to support it now?
Thank you in advance! Itโs been a really tough couple of weeks and I canโt cope with any more loss ๐

i personally wouldnt mist it and wouldnt put it in direct sun. just put it in one spot, and let it adjust to your home and light levels. adansonias are sturdy as long as their roots are fine. also mine lives in 86F just fine but i dont put her on direct light. these direct heats esp through a window can be pretty nasty for plants that dont love it, it even scorched my aloe ๐ ๐
i dont let mine go totally fully bone dry and i top water when the top is fully dry but bottom is still somewhat watered, judging by weight… never bottom watered but 30m seems excesive (?) did you void all the leftover water, including water that might have seeped through afterwards?
Stop misting it, stop moving it. Just let it acclimatise to your environment with indirect light. Give it two weeks to adjust. Water as needed.
