Step inside, Villa Mandarosa, as we continue transforming our historic Italian villa on the enchanting shores of Lake Como. In this episode, we open up about some big, bold ideas — from redesigning the garage and landscaping the garden, to imagining a rooftop terrace with panoramic lake views… and yes, even the possibility of a pool.

Back inside, progress marches on with more ground-floor plastering as our restoration takes shape. Plus, we take a road trip to Germany to test drive a potential new addition to the family (on four wheels!) and pick up some essential building supplies and some bargains!.

We have a visit from our friends and Rocky and the chickens get a look over from the vet…It’s a week of friends, vision, travel, and transformation.

Hello, beautiful people. Hello. So, this is the intro for our new video. Yeah. So, a lot of things happened the last days. So, we were in Germany at the weekend looking at a new car. So, like a second car to have a scooter around the lake here. Yeah. Something a bit smaller that we can fit Rocky in, do shopping. It’s a perfect car for here, I would say. A good runaround. So, um, yeah, that will be coming in a few weeks time, hopefully, August. Uh, been getting on with the ground floor, more plastering. So, that will be in the video as well. And this morning, the weather was not so good last few days, was it? So, yeah, that’s mean not so good. So, I was happy it was not so hot. Um, so today it was dry enough to get the grass cut and get the garden nice and tidy. Yeah. Uh so I’ve just been doing a little bit in the garden and today on this video I want to show some design ideas. Yeah. We have to we have to discuss a lot of topics here. So first of all we uh we had also um Pavle and um Robert Robert here from Patricia. I met them two years ago when I came here um to visit Patricia. And they are how do you call it? They are vets. Yeah, vets. Yeah. Yeah. So, they had a look at the chickens, the two leftovers. They looked at Rocky as well because we’re a bit concerned Rocky had a little spot in his eye. And I read about it and it said it could be melanoma cancer, but they said actually they think it’s just the effect of the sun. So, they looked in his eyes properly and uh yeah, they confirmed he was okay. Um yeah, they have him still around here. So yeah, it was nice to meet them and they came here a couple of times for dinner which was nice with Patricia. Um and then yeah, we say we’re in Germany and then yeah, we want to look at some plans really for Yeah. So here we are in the garage. As you can see, there’s my gym area there. I want to have mirrors all the way across the wall. I have also some dark colors, two grayish colors for the wall. Yep. Um ceiling should be white. going to box all of this in. Yeah, this has to be boxed. It’s all old pipe work and a vent for the radiator. Then we have all the I don’t want to say trash, but it looks trashy here with all the stuff. Yeah, we need a home for this. I have seen some cupboards online, so I’ll show you those. This is maybe perfectly under the staircase that we have a storage there for food and stuff like this. Yeah, the garden things are there at the moment. Yeah. Um, windows are coming anyway, but if you look at this sliding door here, maybe you can operate it, Andrew. Yeah. So, it’s quite quite noisy and quite difficult to open. Yeah. And loud and So, why not just folding doors, glass doors? And I’m thinking a biffold door, gray. Yeah. with maybe this one that just opens cuz we always use this door anyway. Yeah. Um and then it’ll probably bring a lot of light into the garage area. Exactly. And at the minute we have the lights down and as soon we have the new uh windows coming uh it can be open but there’s also the fridge. So I don’t want that the fridge heating up from the back. I think the fridge can go in the downstairs apartment. Yeah, technically. Yes. And dishwasher. Yes. So then we make a retro old kitchen there, right? Fine by me. Yeah. Um then we can have a lock on the door also. So this can be our main entrance. Yeah. You always go in here and Yeah. And then a pool. We have to consider. But it’s question is does it really make sense to invest so much money in a pool? Yeah. Especially it’s not peaceful next to the main road. So it’s nice to have a pool and cool down in the summer. But yeah, but the question is does it add value to the house and if we create value here maybe if you sell the house to mo goodsy people who like goodsy and also there’s another project um which we’ve been thinking about which was the roof terrace. So um whether that makes sense as well. So from the main bedroom on the top floor, we could put again glass doors across. Yeah. Um with a roof terrace and I think it’s quite easy to open the roof there because it’s attic space currently. But the thing is if you touch the roof I also would like to have all roof full of solar. Yeah. But um if you touch the roof then we should um make a new roof. Yeah. Then that’s when the cost element comes in. Yeah. And then so yeah um we have to try to get a offer up for the roof and then we need planning permission for the roof terrace technically. But we know somebody that can help us with all of these things. So yeah. Yeah. And I have to put it in I put it in AI um for the roof terrace. Yeah, I can do that. Um and then there’s just a few garden ideas that I want to share with you. So some ideas for where the trash was started to be collected as we’ve mentioned in the video. And so I’ve got some design ideas for that which we want to show. And uh okay, we have to hurry up. My lunch break is over shortly. So yeah, hope you enjoy the video and uh I know everybody says it, but don’t forget to like and subscribe. Like and subscribe. It really helps us to build our pool. Thank you. See you soon. Bye bye. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] So both like this sh was 135 and we both like that chair. That’s this one here. So, here we looking at only 199. This is just 1,000. So can you imagine Patrick with the lamb chops analies? Yeah. Good. Let’s have a look what’s under this side. It’s just a grill here. No, it’s here. And then the grill proper bride glass bottle for the big one tools. Heat. Heat. [Music] So, everyone is 60 or 80%. Was not believing it, but it’s true. So, we got some plastic plastic plants, but was your first German word you ever learned, right? Yeah. So, they’re normally quite expensive. So, they cost €40 and we get 80% discount. Yeah. There was 71 in the shop we Yeah, 71 was the other shop. Okay, carry on. We have to find more bargins. Oh boy. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Hello. What’s the dynamic here? Dynamic? Yeah. Uh, garden is done. Yeah. But we need Pao for the mountain here. Text him again. Yeah. Uh some eggs. Very good. How many? Uh six. Yeah. Uh new lights arrived for the tree. Yeah. Solar. So there. What about the swim vest for us? Uh uh there’s a problem. They think the package was lost. Um, I contacted the seller on Amazon and they said, “You have to wait 48 hours and then I can claim a refund, I think.” Okay. But he said he might sell it off. Maybe a compensation for delay. I think I’ll ask the compensation for the life. So, here we have to build a pool, right? Yeah. What do you think? Yeah. So, maybe we share some of the ideas um in the video. What do you think about the costs? I don’t know. Depends if it’s heated or not. No, not heated. And yeah, and then so it should be relatively cheap cuz it’s a filter. Yeah, but to build everything and ah there’s tika masala masala shouldn’t be expensive because you can go to part of the terrace and it’s just breeze block strength walls, double block skimmed with concrete on the inside. uh the blue sealant to seal it or tile it, but I think sealant is okay. Uh steps down there and um just need a filter box. Yeah, but the pool should be there on the side. A small slim one that all the way along. Yeah. Okay. So, I was thinking it might be nice to have a terrace here. Yeah. Terrace here and then then the steps down into the pool. And then here we have enough space for a pool. Yeah. And it doesn’t need to be deep really. Yeah. Yeah. But deeper than this here. We need the foundation everything. We need a digger. Not that big. It’s not that deep. Yeah. We don’t know what’s underneath here. And whether you need permission. No, we don’t need just a pool. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music]

  1. I think a permanent pool is not adding a lot of value. Small plunge pool? There a lot of work. love your ideas, gym utility is perfect

  2. All great ideas! Just depends how much it costs and if you have the money and want to invest in those ideas. You can speak to a real estate agent to determine what home improvements do well and return on investment in your neighbourhood. From your comments regarding how it is hot, a roof terrace will be even hotter than in your garden. A pool is terrific, or a plunge pool, or even a hot tube which can be used year around (turn temperature down in summer and use more like a plunge pool). Do you swim in the lake when it’s hot?

  3. A “Plunge Pool” would be pretty cool for the two of you and easy to maintain. Y’all do what makes you happy in the long run. ☀️

  4. If you added a tiled block wall next to the road with a water feature, it would dampen the noise. Some things are for your pleasure, and that is the financial return.

  5. I think I want to go to Leipsig for shopping!😂
The AI plans of a pool and terrace are lovely. I hope you can make it possible. Andrew, your male pattern balding is cute.😂 I have it, too, but if I were younger, I would have the implants done. Strangely enough, the cost of a haircut is no less!😂❤

  6. I don't expect you ever plan to sell your beautiful house, but a pool would add value wouldn't it? In the meantime please buy a kiddies paddling pool for Rocky to cool down in! ❤
