SHREVEPORT, La. – If your once beautiful flowering plants are looking tired, some seasonal attention can encourage new blooms and more color through a process called deadheading.
Plants like geraniums and roses are often covered with dead flowers around this time of year, making them far less attractive. But, if you remove the dead flowers by either pinching or snipping them, you can also encourage new blooms.
That’s because the removal of the dead blooms redirects the plant’s energy back to producing more flowers.
This simple practice also helps prevent disease and pests that may be living in decaying flowers.
