Growing up my mom always had a green thumb. She could grow anything. We were limited to a very small “yard” in the front of our apartment but she could always make do with what she had. She taught me many things in life but never how to grow things.
Over the years things changed and she left that all behind. She got sick. Then she died. But I always wanted to have that part of her. It was just such an extraordinary thing to see something grow from nothing. A tiny seed or cutting into something so miraculous! So over time I’ve taught myself. With much trail and error and still a lot learning ahead.
I love the community I’ve found as well within the flower, plant and gardening folks. It’s a good feeling so today I wanted to share a tiny bit of my flower garden. I’m in the PNW so things are just finally really taking off! I have a variety of gladiolus, sunflowers, lilies, dahlias and marigolds. These have always been my favorite flowers but the gladiolus were always meant for my mom. Though she never grew any on her own but now I easily have over 20 different shoots coming up. I can’t wait for everything to be in full bloom. I hope wherever my mama is that she loves my garden as much as I do.
Love you always mama!
