Hi all! We’re in Northern Colorado and have a lawn service that aerates, fertilizes and applies weed control to our lawn. They applied fertilizer on April 7th, and weed control today.

This afternoon while I was gone, another company serviced our lawn by mistake instead of our neighbors. They also applied a broadleaf weed control, as well as a crab grass preemergent and fertilizer.

Our company’s invoice from April simply says they applied a granular fertilizer. Trugreen today applied 2.3 gallons of 17-0-5 UBM (Nitrogen, Potassium).

Will this nuke the lawn since it was already fertilized in April? I’m planning on contacting Trugreen, but wanted to see what the ramifications of double fertilization (and double broadleaf and crabgrass control products) will be. Thanks in advance for any help!

  1. No weeds and a very green lush lawn if all goes well, good luck 😉👍

No. It’s been 3 months since you last fertilized? Your poor lawn is probably pretty happy right now. You’ve been starving it. Fertilize more often my man. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks.

You’ll be fine…probably get some good growth and weed control.

Only caveat is that Prodiamine can last 120 days…so likely won’t be overseeding this year if you planned on it..

Don’t worry, Trugreen probably didn’t even put chemicals down and just said they did – they’ve been known to do this…

Trugreen is likely just spraying water right now. I wouldn’t worry about it. Plus the technician likely just put a flag In your yard and didn’t actually spray anything.

Nah, 3 months is plenty of time for all of the nitrogen in fertilizer to have been absorbed and used, so it won’t burn the lawn.

Tell your lawn care company about the Potassium in the fertilizer that got applied, as they might want to use a product with less of that next application.

Was it Roy Gherbil from TruGreen?

Did he accidentally seed your lawn with dandelions?

You’ll probably be fine. Don’t pay trugreen a dime and call your other company and let them know this happened and you want them to alter or delay your next application accordingly. Odds of a burn increase a lot of they come back in a couple days and spread even more fertilizer

  9. I can tell you 3 things

1 your lawn will be perfectly fine give it about an inch of water and you’ll see it grow faster than you want it to

2 April 7th was 3 months ago even if the other company used extended release the window is usually 90 days

3 this is not the product TruGreen applied to your lawn they are not using pre emergent at this time the window is well past they stopped using it probably mid to late may which is more concerning that they don’t know what products they are putting on your lawn

You’ll be fine. Funny that they put down pre in July, instead of quinclorac, which would actually kill the crabgrass that im sure is up like crazy in your parts
