00:00 Introduction for a Tea and Crunch Tiny Garden
00:27 Plants for Container Gardening
07:18 Planting Techniques for a container garden
have been wanting to create a little tea garden and you don’t have the space Maybe you’re in an apartment or a tiny garden like I am and I don’t want the roots spreading all over the place I’m going to show you how I’m going to create a two-tier garden that will be my tea and crunch garden and last me all season long until the first frost On the two-tier garden I’m going to grow different herbs and I want some flowers So I grew some of the things that I’m going to have flowers from seed but you can probably find them in the store This is a super busy my fatunia The flowers are absolutely gorgeous flowers I grow this every year They’re really big flowers Absolutely great for tea Then I’m going to have some snap dragon that I grew from seed This is I think the bridal one but I’m not sure or maybe the peach one but I’m going to grow it sideways so it starts spilling down the two tier garden I also have rosemary which is great for tea and for so many things You can use this for herbs for cooking or you can use them in teas And this is lavender This is French lavender and it will give me flowers which will be great I think it’ll add a lot and it will flower all the way until the first frost These plants will grow large but if you plant them all together in a pot they will control each other because they can only grow so much This chamomile is not looking too hot But I am going to grow some chamomile It’ll probably bounce back like it’s doing pretty well here So I’ll cut a lot of this off and it will come right back up It’s just they’ve been on the pot for a while [Music] I love chamomile It grows on my path and I harvest it all the time It is so relaxing to have a cup of hot tea in the evening of chamomile I do dry them indoors but they are just a little bit of work to harvest but absolutely rewarding I’m going to add some teragon just because it has kind of a minty licorice flavor So you can probably add it to your tea or cook with it And instead of adding mint to the paws where the mint will take over And then I have this beautiful basil I’ll put the name on the screen But this grows pretty tall but it has this very brilliant purple sort of shiny leaves It’s really beautiful to add color But you can also have it on your tea It will be great I’m growing this also on my Dalia patch to use it as fill in my flower bouquet I have some dill And dill is great again It’s turning a little yellow Dill is great on tea and you can also use it for cooking All of these you can use for either one The same with parsley It’s a great herb and I’m going to add that in there Now another two for color I’m going to ask the resin calula This gives a really bright orange or yellow flowers and is super medicinal I love it to have teas and all of that So I’m going to add it because I think with the chundula and leatonia this sort of bright color will be really nice [Music] You can use this beautiful calandula flower the resin specifically for so many applications You should research the many things that you can transform this from tinctures to lotions And my favorite is to have it in tea I tend to get a lot of my herbs and have tea from them Well there are a lot of uses for this I also use them in my salad and I also hydrate them not only for tea but because my bunny loves them [Music] The next one is narstation that I grew from seed and this is a cherry color one I love these You can have the leaves and make some pesto or you can have the flowers and eat them raw in salads This is not only beautiful but you can have so many uses for this and they’re great on our herb garden on the top tier This is where I’m going to have this beautiful purple ball basil ball Look at look at this It is just the cutest thing It grows really round but the color is so pretty So I’m going to recall what is going on on the bottom with this one And the highlight here will be this chart This Firebird chard grows really large and tall and it has this brilliant color that is like a purplish red and I think it will make everything just come together really nicely I have another snap dragon because I plan to do a flower on the top and then on the bottom the same so it looks like it’s just spilling down the two tiers added another French lavender on the top because again I want that purple color of lavender because it works really well with the purples that I’m adding throughout like any of these And I went ahead and added another super busy macatunia for the top I’m also going to be doing these two mints And I went ahead and seal a clay pot I just sealed it so that when I place this on the floor next to my herb pot it will not spread the roots into the ground They like to be more wet than a lot of other herbs So it’s okay if it’s sealed And I have this This is the chocolate and this is the orange And they are Oh my gosh I wish I had smellvision because they smell incredible Can you imagine a tea with orange and chocolate mint together That’s so good I cannot wait The chocolate one has this sort of purpley color on the bottom and the top So it goes with the basil beautifully And then the orange one has a little bit of veining when it starts that is purpley and on the back And the stem also is kind of that reddish color So I think they’ll complement each other in flavor and also in the look This is going to be really pretty Just make sure that you place it where the roots are not going to just go down into the ground because it will spread around your garden and I can afford that in this garden So I want to show you it really can spread You see how it has roots It has roots right on the stem So you got to be super careful That’s why I’m placing mine on the patio So I seal the bottom just to not risk anything I don’t want these roots taking on into my garden I mean once is there it is going to be impossible to take it out This is the two tier pot So I’m going to add more soil to this I just didn’t do it cuz I want to put the pots there now after I put compost And then this is the top tier which is narrow and tall It had a lot of height Once I put the soil on I’m going to put this stone to hold the pot in place so it doesn’t shift as you water But that’s the two-tier pot I’m going to be doing And I think it will be really beautiful It will grow and flow It’ll be really nice So one of the things I also want to do is if you can see there’s like a little pot up here And I think I want to add one of the mints to it I’m thinking the chocolate mint cuz I love chocolate mint I was thinking maybe the lavender but the lavender will be more straight up and the mint will spill down which will look really beautiful And the chocolate mint has such a beautiful color So I was going to do a patunia superma patunia but I don’t know It’ll be one or the other I have to decide which one I want to use We’ll see You’ll know when I do it with you [Music] Here’s a little compost Three And then I’m going to place some more soil I want the soil to be all the way to the top because when you water it’s going to compress down [Music] I’m going to use a little plant tone I’m not going to use flower tone because I think it’s too Oh I have a hole in here I think flower tone may be a little too much I don’t know You could use it I’m just going to use plant tone [Music] And then I’m going to start placing the different plants and then I’ll fill this up with soil So I’m going to place the plants I I want the patuniius to be able to be visible from where I sit So I’m going to do the patunia on this side This is my patio is this way I’m going to take all the old leaves that don’t look very good Do the rosemary facing the opposite way Okay This is beautiful And then I’m going to do the snapdragon facing that way Also should I I’m going to make this one next to the rosemary And I’m going to face it like sideways so it spills down facing where I sit And then chamom will have small flowers that are white I want to place it with the super bisimma patunia because this has tiny white flowers and the te it’s more like a texture in against the purple large flowers Looks really pretty The basil grows tall So I’m going to put it next to the snap dragon because it will grow tall And again I’m going to place it sideways Still it will grow tall And when it flowers I plan to just leave it because it’s yellow flowers So that will be so pretty I’m going to place it again sideways All of these I try to place sideways so they start spilling Going to do parsley next to the chamomile because it adds another texture It’s a little larger than the leaves of the chamomile That will look so nice [Music] So I’m jamming these in here This patunia will grow pretty large It will take a lot of this space So I’m going to leave a little bit space for the chamomile and the super bizimma patunia This will be a beautiful accent This is the resin calangula and it has that yellow and orange color So I’m going to place it right here because against the purple and just leaves here it will be this is a larger leaf So it has texture texture and a larger leaf So kind of look at the texture scales of the leaves that you’re choosing on the herbs All of these I think will get along fine with the watering types There’s this larger leaf narations and they will grow much larger than this the leaf So I think it will be perfect in between rosemary and the lavender because it will give a red flower like a cherry rose they call it So it’s like a rose very bright rose color So look at how it kind of gives a release to texture and texture in between And then this teragon the color is a little more sort of green blue more green like more blue than this This is more like the snapdragon leaf So I think it’ll be a good addition I’m going to be placing this one right next to the chalangula because this deal has a sort of bluish color and so does this So it has this has more greeny with a yellow hue yellow hue green It goes more blue blue tone like cooler tone and then the patunia is kind of in between But you can see I kind of have that that sort of cooler color throughout The yellow on the leaves will make it just pop out more Okay let’s add some soil Make sure when you’re adding the soil that you’re really going in the crevices cuz this has a big deep lip right here So I want to make sure that I put it in there Push that in cuz I want the level of where the pot was to be the level of the soil So all these are going to start spilling out and spilling up really nicely And I’m just using potting soil container soil cuz you want to the soil to not get hard So I have the compost on the bottom they’re going to get plenty of nutrition with the compost and and the uh fertilizer So make sure you’re going in the edges if you select a pot this large around the plant and filling up You don’t want air gaps But what I’m going to do is I’m going to water this before I place the pot on the top of it This one is not sideways I want it more sideways cuz I don’t want it growing straight So let me Same with this snapdragon Make sure that it’s sideways Take your time doing this because this is going to really help on how the plant grows This one I want it growing straight up right Because this is right here this metal arch So I want texture on the middle arch where the roses are growing because I’m not going to be able to put fertilizer here later I’m going to put some in the center but I’m going to put some on the edge because that’s where the water is going to go when I put the stone and pot here Okay let’s go ahead and water this [Music] Free flowing sailing with the wind Not a little more soil just because it is sinking down a bit and it’s going to sink down even more Oops Poor plants It’s all right Gardening is a messy job Okay this is where the stone is going to go So that’s why I’m keeping like a little lump in the center Okay I’m going to water one more time Okay that looks good Let’s go ahead and place the stone There we go And that’s where top layer is going to go and the plant I’m going to mix it I don’t want the root getting burned Slow release fertilizer Whatever you have is fine So I’m going to do this exactly where the other patunia is below You see how I have this patunia here and that patunia down here I’m going I want them to spill right on the same location So I’m going to line them up I have to make a little deeper hole here There we go And then I’m going to do the love French lavender again Break the roots Place it right there My basil I want the basil to be right next to the patunia because the colors of the purple will be so similar I’m going to make it spill to the side again And then I have the snap dragon which I’m going to put here with the other one And place it See where the other one is Right here I’m going to place it the same location There we go Sideways [Music] [Applause] And then this is the one that grows tall And I want this right where the lavender is This is going to grow tall So I’m going to place this one to the right of it right here And this will grow pretty large So it’ll be like a little sort of display here It will give height to the pot And if I put the mint on the top it will be really beautiful because it recalls the mint that’s on the top porcelain thing that I showed you before Look at the roots of this They’re purple This firebird is stunning And I do like I want to do a lot of purple So I have the lavender color flowers the ball basil the super patunia or like a bright pink purple Okay the last one that I’m going to do is this micro tomato This is where the crunch comes in I love snacking Right now I’m snacking on strawberries and snap peas and I want to have all the things in the summer obviously So I’m I like to put throughout the garden little cherry micro tomatoes So this is just a micro tomato I’m going to move this to the right a little bit I’m going to put a little compost for the tomato to have some extra boost Tomatoes have a really deep root a tap root So this pot is really nice and deep So that will be great for it Okay So I am going to also add more compost around this tomato and chard just I wanted to have as much as it can nutrition [Music] Free flowing sailing with the wind Not knowing how this story ends Mind and brave I know you’ll find a way Live your truth and good will come to you Home sweet home [Music] Oh sweet home [Music] [Music] [Music] grounded steady earth to arms wide I wanted to make sure to tell you thank you Thank you to everybody who has supported me the last few months and have just commented on the videos and updated me on what is happening in their garden I really do enjoy hearing from you on what you’re doing and what you like to see in the videos It does help me produce better things for you [Music] Remember to continue to garden for your mind body and soul Try to

I always look forward to your posts Melba. You inspire me to garden. Every. Single. Day.
It's simple, compact, and made for days when I'm too tired or in pain to search for my herbs around the garden. But I wanted it to be beautiful too, something you'd be proud to see by your door, even on a balcony. What's ONE thing you would plant if your space was tight? Let me know.
I purchased both of the chocolate mint and orange mint this year. you are so right, they smell awesome. I am getting all the mints that I can find for tea, there is an apple mint, lemon mint and several others I want I love your videos and your garden is always so beautiful!
Inspired! The chocolate and orange mint sounds amazing; thank you for the warning about it spreading 🙂
