A 31-year-old man caused a stir in Umdloti Beach on Thursday afternoon when he unknowingly ate a cannabis-infused chocolate bar, an accidental high that ended with a swim in a neighbour’s pool and a dramatic sprawl across a stranger’s car bonnet.

Prem Balram, from Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), said the man and a woman colleague had been working at a property in the area while their employers were away on holiday in Europe.

During a cleaning session, the woman discovered the candy bar inside the home.

After finding it too sweet, she gave the rest to the gardener, who ate the whole thing and unbeknownst to him, the candy bar contained 50mg of cannabis.

Balram said the man began behaving irrationally a short while later.

He said the man’s journey took him to a neighbouring house where he dived into the pool, where he then fled onto the road, where he jumped onto a car.

Balram said that paramedics examined the packaging of the candy and found that it was within its expiration date but contained 50 milligrams of cannabis.
