The order deadline for the plant kits is July 18, and they ship in September
The rain gardener course will take place in four sessions across a four-week time period
The plant kits “provide a diversity of plants featuring grasses, flowers, and sedges,” according to a SWCD press release. They cost $160 plus tax and cover 100 square feet. The Keystone Pollinator Kit, however, costs $220 plus tax.
The following kits will be offered for this fall, and they ship in September:
Prairie Garden Kit
Prairie Grass Kit
Shade Kit
Rain Garden Kit
Purple Rain Garden Kit
Monarch Garden Kit
Low-Profile Garden Kit
Keystone Pollinator Kit
The order deadline is July 18.
SWCD says they have sold more than 900 such kits since 2020.
“Native plant species are better suited to the local environment, establish faster and are hardier. They require less water, fertilizer, pesticide and can help to control stormwater and erosion with their long root systems,” the release reads. “In addition, native plants are low-maintenance, and the long-term upkeep is dramatically less costly than turf grass. They also provide habitat suitable to native animals (birds, bees, etc.).”

The rain gardener course will take place in four sessions across a four-week time period at the Cuyahoga County Public Library — Mayfield Branch. They will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 8, 15, 22 and 29.
The lessons will range from soil consideration, to plant selection, design and more. There is a $75 registration fee.
“Attendees will learn to design and install their own rain garden and become the rain garden expert in their neighborhood,” the release reads.
