Yes it means it’s about to bloom, no it won’t subsequently die. It is monocarpic, it does only bloom once, but it will offset and form a clump, unlike sempervivum or agave, the rosette won’t die after, it just won’t bloom again. Death bloom in this case is a misnomer. Eventually it will wither away. I have a caput-meduseae that bloomed last year and it made three pups, the rosette that bloomed is still fine. It just has a dead inflo attached to it.
