I have river rocks as a border to my flower bed. But my dogs are always running through the flower bed and kicking the rocks out of it onto the sidewalk. What are some ways to make them more permanently stay? I was thinking of using some kind of cement and cementing like groups of 3 but I have no idea what kind to use. We have weed prevention netting under them so they don't sink into the soil at all.

Honestly you would probably have better luck using bricks or edging stones rather than river rock for this. If you are set on these stones maybe taking a layer of dirt where you want the edging so the stones are set into it, rather than on top? Dogs are gonna dog though, so they may still kick them out.

You need cobblestone boulders, bigger heavier won’t move

  3. I have some river rock edging on my property, and I can say over time they sink in to the ground and become more permanent. I’m talking a couple years to start tho. If you want to expedite this, digging a small hole underneath and nesting each rock may help.

Check your neighborhood “buy nothing/free” page on Facebook or something similar. We have gotten loads of landscaping bricks of all different sizes for free. Usually just go pick them up at the end of some person’s driveway.

The latest were 200 of those red/brown rectangular bricks that are convex on one short end and concave on the other. They slot together and make great edging for something like this. You’d bury them down a bit, like others have suggested.

That’s not a border it’s just random scattered rocks
