CRANSTON, R.I. (WJAR) — Cranston police said Wednesday that shots were fired at someone who walked out of a gym at Garden City Center in an apparently targeted attack.

Nobody was hit, but police said a person got out of a car and fired several rounds at another person who walked out of L.A. Fitness. That person was able to run to safety in another store.

Police said the people in the car fled and were chased by state police to the Providence Place mall parking garage, where three people were taken into custody by state and Providence police. A gun was recovered.

Police said the person who was shot at appeared to be targeted and that the shooting was not random.

They said the person who was targeted has a “history” and has been shot at before. The suspects and the target are from the Brockton-Boston area, police said.

Police said at least five shots were fired. The shell casings will be compared to the gun that was seized in Providence.
