Needs water? Maybe some fertilizer? ZZ is tough. It’ll live.

It’s super dehydrated. The soil may have become hydrophobic. Use a chop stick or pencil aerate the soil. Then bottom water it until the top layer is moist. Or you can refresh it with new soil. Whichever is easier for you. Then it should bounce back just fine.

Assuming you just watered it for the first time in months – dont leave it in that outer white pot if it has no holes – it needs to dry out again ASAP. Your biggest risk right now is dry rot – basically like a person found stranded in the desert you cant just flush it full of fluids. If it doesn’t bounce back your best bet is to chop and prop and dig out any “potatoes (rhizomes)” that aren’t squishy or rotten. Most pieces of a ZZ can reproduce a new plant even without roots.

The poor baby needs to be repotted. The soil is probably depleted & the container is too small anyway. Some fresh soil, water & TLC should save it.
And although they don’t need a lot of light, office environment may not give it enough light. It needs to be nearer a window or use a simple plant lite. (And don’t be afraid to use small stake to prop up stems that hang.) Good luck!

This is cracking me up – I water mine every few months and she looks lovely so I’m pretty sure your hasn’t watered this even once the whole time she’s had it 😂 Buy her a fake plant but put some real dirt around the base so she doesn’t know and see what happens!!

Replant it into a self watering pot, like this, and it’ll be just fine. I find mine loves this pot bc I’m often not home and it drinks from it as needed and I refill it once a week or so. If I forget for 2 weeks and it’s empty, my plant hasn’t suffered at all. It did much better once I moved it to a self watering pot also, and I’ve had it now for 6 years.

I bought one of these last summer. It got lost in Florida for 6 weeks then showed up randomly in a beat up, ripped open box. It was in better shape than this. This might be a sign that your wife’s brown thumb syndrome is terminal. Sorry mate.

yes. thought mine was completely dead and then these awkward growths happened

Can someone fill me in on the tiger striping? One of my Ravens is doing that but it’s still plump and otherwise looks fine

If she can’t even remember/be bothered to water a ZZ plant occasionally, maybe keep her away from plants altogether 😕

I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of impressed. I didn’t think these plants could look anything but alive, but she’s done the unthinkable!

Oh my god 🤦🏼‍♀️ Maybe? It’s so sad 😭

  13. BridgetKay81

Mine looked raggedy af after over watering it so I corrected my “love it to death” issue and it looks great now

  14. redcat2012

Why did you set her up to fail? I can’t keep zz plants alive. They’re not easy plants

  15. ZZ plants are not easy idk why that myth persists. One of the only plants I’ve ever lost 😭

  16. daiblo1127

It looks like a skeleton of its former self: no water, sun, fertilizer or love given to ZZ. Give wife expensive faux plants for office. Problem solved!
