    It probably is an old cistern or septic tank cover. However, back in my childhood, circa 50’s early 60’s, fallout shelters were also popular, with many of them being sealed and covered after years of disuse. Sometimes, they had storm shelter, root cellar style entrances, with others, a vertical access cover, and rung ladders.

    Reminds me of a sewer manhole cover ring. But it isn’t one of course in that location.
    But they did have those in backyards in my old neighborhood. But close to the back fence where the easement ran.
