In Ohio. Nobody currently occupies the property, but they send someone out to cut every once in a while. I think they stopped bothering to cut this area because it grows so much faster than the rest of the yard.
Nutsedge. Terribly invasive. Grows an inch a day. You need the sedge hammer.

Some cities have ordinances that consider this a nuisance and might fine them. My city does. Otherwise if you worried the roots or seeds will damage your yard; you could say I noticed your schedule keeps you away from home or wkg long hours, I would be glad to help out and mow your yard, if your okay with it. Not first choice for me- I would call city anonymously but I have fought neighbors weeds. Mowing can help me.
