Hello,

I’m looking for some feedback on hydroseeding I recently had done. I’m located in Southern NH.

Earlier this year I paid $1.6K to have ~6 yards of dirt brought it, spread, and then hydroseeded. This is my first time having a landscape company do this type of work and also my first time having hydroseeding.

Key Dates:

4/29/25: dirt spread and hydroseeding applied
5/19/25: starter fertilizer put down
6/9/25: 50lbs of seed raked in and covered with water soluble pellets

Watering Schedule: 2x daily for 15-20mins AM and PM. I did NOT water on days that had consistent rain.

My hope is to gather feedback from those who have experience with hydroseeding. As of today I’m feeling discouraged when I look at my lawn as there are a number of bare spots and what appears to be more weeds than grass. I did my best to provide photos documenting the growth over the last couple of months.

Need a soil test maybe. Also I saw a ton of rocks in that soil. Even the best most cared for grass can’t grow in hard rocky soil with a nutrient deficiency

You got what I would expect with hydroseed….an absolute crapshit amount of weeds, mixed grass types, and likely a “pro” placing blame on you.

IMO, this would be a demand for refund, with potential for small claims court action.

Did you apply the 50# of seed and pellets? Any information on either product? The pellets are garbage…another BS upsell lousy people use to say the grass will grow better, and to push blame away.

And seeding with weeds all over the place?.. This Masshole feels bad for you….

It looks like you’re trying to grow grass in gravel. That only works when you don’t want grass in your gravel.

  4. I would ask for a refund. Hydroseeding seems like a great idea for large swaths of land after a construction job.

You got spotty germination, tons of weeds and contractor mix of grass varieties

All that soil came with all those weeds. Have to put down preemergent as you are growing grass and weeds at the same time.
