The Riverside Inn is offering tours of its kitchen garden and smallholding.

The Aymestrey pub, which won the bronze Visit England Taste of England award in June, is inviting people to explore its grounds.

The tours will give people the chance to see the pigs, chickens, and bees, as well as the kitchen garden and orchard.

The Riverside Inn is a 16th-century black and white building on the edge of the River Lugg valley.

It has a kitchen garden and orchard where produce is grown, and many other ingredients are sourced locally.

The pub also has a smallholding with pigs, chickens, and bees.

Chef and patron Andy Link, who was born and bred on a local Herefordshire farm.

He said: “The gardens are in full swing now and will be until late autumn.

“Even then, we have winter veg such as leeks and parsnips to cook in our kitchens.

“It’s wonderful to see the heritage orchard in late summer, when the branches are laden with fruit, along with the myriad drinks and dishes we can create using the produce within our grounds.

“The smallholding, with our pigs, chickens, and bees, gives our team a flavour of the life cycle and rhythm of country life, which is important in a time when our connection with rural life, and the natural world, is broken.

“It also means that we can gather a great deal of produce without even leaving the Riverside’s boundaries, truly reducing our food miles.”

Guests are welcome to explore the kitchen garden and smallholding, but if you’d like a guided tour, please book ahead by calling The Riverside on 01568 708440.

The Riverside Inn is a popular pub and restaurant, and it is advisable to book a table in advance if you would like to eat there.

The pub has won a number of awards, including the Taste of Herefordshire award, the sustainable ethical business award, and the Herefordshire business of the year award at the Visit Herefordshire awards.

It was also a finalist in the national Visit England awards.
