In October we moved into a townhome with a patio that was overgrown with invasive weeds. Since then, I’ve worked tirelessly to get it to this point, including getting the garden through two freezes and a snow (subtropical climate). I’m really proud of my work – it’s always been my dream to have my own garden even though I have extremely limited experience. We now have animals returning to the area including bees, mice, lizards, beneficial wasps, snails, etc. Here’s some of the things we did:

  • Pulled weeds

  • Got rid of the mint (don’t panic)

  • Mixed compost into the dirt

  • Added mulch

-Finished the brick border to stop the wood rot that had started on the fence

  • planted some natives/drought tolerant plants plus a native tree that could withstand our clay soil

  • Added border (for aesthetics)

  • power washed the patio
