Time to come clean. Literally.

My lawn has been struggling for a couple months. I’ve thrown everything at it—commercial fertilizers (flagship & lesko), slow-release pellets, overpriced seaweed/kelp concentrate… and nothing really worked reliably. At best, the fertilizers manage to got a brief green (1month ish) before it faded again like my hope. 🥲

So, in frustration (and intense internet research), I did something that felt a little unholy but also kind of genius: I started peeing for my lawn.
Well—not directly like a feral animal. I collected urine, diluted it, and mixed it with sodium humate (basically fancy dirt magic). Then I applied it like liquid fertilizer every 3 weeks.

And the result?
The lawn is thriving. Like, aggressively green. And happy the piggy bank is happy!

My theory is that the commercial fertilizers were too narrow—high in NPK, but missing some essential micronutrients that a struggling lawn needs. Urine (to my surprise and mild horror) is full of nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, and also micronutrients like magnesium, sulfur, and even trace zinc and boron. The humic acid probably helped buffer it and slow release of those nutrients.

So now I have a healthy lawn, a weird hobby, and a secret shame that oddly smells like success. Just kidding, the lawn didnt smell like pee at all!

That’s an interesting one. Single? Or was this a secret mission lol?

How did you collect and how long did it take? Rate?

This is wild to me haha

That’s bad. Human urine is not only urea and micronutrients that are not that rich at all in micronutrients as you claim. It is affected by your health and what you eat. Human feces or urine have been tried in the past as fertilizers but failed miserably and only caused illnesses and your lawn should be marked as unsafe if other people wanna come over (as a doctor speaking).

I’m impressed with your organic pee lawn. Good job OP.

  4. Interesting… Well if anyone wants to nuke his lawn my dog pisses glyphosate

Just pee in one of those hose line sprayers set appropriately no one will know 🙂

  6. I tried this too, but I didn’t notice much of a difference. Suspect I used too little for the area or too diluted. Used 2L of urin mixed with 8L of water on a 100m2 area. Also had some rain just after.

Regardless of the benefits, this is disgusting

This is one of the best threads /r/lawncare has had this year.

I believe it. My neighbors dog peed on a spot in my lawn and it’s been green all year.

This story would have been way better if you were just out there pissing on it.

That’s really fucking weird and your lawn still looks mediocre.

Very generally speaking here but, soil can generally be assumed to provide enough micronutrients for grass. Usually in most regions, for lawns, nitrogen and iron are often the only real deficiencies that commonly happen.

That’s why lawn fertilizers are heavy and nitrogen and usually include a touch of iron.

You were too busy asking if you could, you never stopped to ask if you should. I like my lawn and all, but I’m not setting up a bucket to play Roman Laundry in the morning. It’s a grass blade too far. But hey glad it worked. I’ll stick to DEF for “pee” experiments.

PS: your post reads kinda like this: “I tried so many fire extinguishers and none of them really worked. But I started peeing on them instead and that works great.” I’m glad you found your thing but if the actual fertilizers didn’t give results I think it’s an application problem.

How do collect enough for an entire lawn?
