    My backyard has something similar (I don’t know jack about plants and trees) they have never been trimmed as far as I can tell (been in the house 2 years) does trimming them make them grow faster or fill in faster?

    What kind is it? Have to choose a hedge tomorrow for our backyard fence. Zone 10a. Full afternoon sun in so cal. Looking at Podocarpus macrophyllus, Privet or something else. Need about 6 feet high
