Weeds popping up in gravel driveways or patio cracks can be one of the most frustrating problems. They’re tough, stubborn, and seem to return no matter how often you clear them. Many people turn to white vinegar as a quick fix. It’s widely recommended as a natural weed killer, but according to some experts, it may not be the most effective solution.

Chelsey, a gardening expert from Good Grow, explained that while vinegar might look like it’s working, it doesn’t deal with the root problem. “Vinegar simply burns away the visible part of the weed,” she said. “It may look dead and act dead, but the roots are still intact and will regrow.”

If you’re looking for something stronger and longer-lasting, experts now say there’s a better kitchen item for the job.

And that item is rock salt.

While table salt can be used in some cases, Chelsey said rock salt is far more powerful when it comes to tackling weeds in gravel areas.

“It’s the fastest way to kill weeds on your drive forever,” she said.

Experts at Joe’s Lawn Care agree. They called rock salt a “super-effective and totally natural weed killer” that works especially well on gravel driveways.

According to them, all you need to do is sprinkle it around the base of the weeds and wait.

“Watch as the salt kills the weeds in just a matter of days,” they added. “It’s almost unbelievable.”

What makes salt so effective is its ability to prevent regrowth.

Once sprinkled, it seeps into the soil and makes it difficult for anything to grow in that spot again, including weeds.
