Record-breaking 72M Americans set to travel over Fourth of July
A record 72 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home over the Fourth of July holiday period, which runs from June 28 to July 6, according to AAA.

The Fourth of July fireworks show in Long Branch is causing traffic congestion throughout the area. All lanes on Route 36 are closed from Atlantic Avenue in Long Branch to Broadway in West Long Branch. Detours are in place. Authorities are expected to reopen the highway about 10:30 p.m. Friday.
At 8:30 p.m. Friday, there is an investigation underway for a serious motor vehicle crash on Route 35, just north of Broadway in Keyport. All lanes have been shut down.
As of 7:45 p.m. Friday, the travel time from the Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 63 (Route 72 East) via the express lanes on the Parkway was about one hour.
Travel time to Belmar
As of 7:45 p.m. Friday, the travel time from the Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 98 (Route 138 East) via the local lanes on the Parkway was 26 minutes.

There are travel delays reported Friday evening on Route 35 North from Holiday Road in Toms River to Herbert Street in Mantoloking, on Ocean County’s northern barrier island.
At 5:18 p.m., a bike rack had fallen off a motor vehicle and was in the center lane of the southbound lanes of the Parkway just south of Exit 98 (Route 138) in Wall. Expect travel delays in the area.
At 5:16 p.m., there was a motor vehicle crash on I-195 westbound near Exit 16 (Route 537) for Six Flags Great Adventure in the Jackson and Millstone area. The left and rights shoulders are closed.
Motorists in northern coastal Monmouth County should expect travel delays on Route 36 from Sandy Hook to Beach Road in Monmouth Beach.
Debris has been reported on Route 88 westbound — west of Route 632/Bridge Ave in Point Pleasant. The right shoulder is closed at this time.
Firefighters and other first responders are now on the scene of a motor vehicle fire at the Barnegat Toll Plaza in the southbound lanes of the Parkway. One toll lane is reported to be closed as a result of the blaze.
A southbound lane at the Barnegat Toll Plaza on the Parkway is blocked after a motor vehicle burst into flames, between exits 69 (Waretown) and 67 (Barnegat). Expect heavy delays in the area.
There are delays reported on Route 35 southbound from Route 71/Union Ave in Brielle to Routes 35/88 in Point Pleasant Beach.
There are heavy delays reported on Route 34 southbound from about Paynters Road to Route 70 in Wall.
As of 2:45 p.m. Friday, the travel time from the Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 63 (Route 72 East) via the express lanes on the Parkway was one hour and four minutes.
Travel time to Belmar
As of 2:45 p.m. Friday, the travel time from the Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 98 (Route 138 East) via the local lanes on the Parkway was 34 minutes.
In Toms River, New Hampshire Avenue between Silverton Road and White Oak Bottom Road is open again. This section of New Hampshire Avenue had closed for emergency repairs early Friday morning.
As of 1:23 p.m., there is a 5-mile backup due to volume in the southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway from Exit 89A in Lakewood to south of Exit 83 in Toms River.
As of 1:16 p.m., the left, southbound lane of the Garden State Parkway in Wall is blocked, due to a crash south of Exit 98.
As of 1:03 p.m., there is a 7-mile delay due to volume in the southbound express lanes of the Garden State Parkway, from Exit 114 in Holmdel to Exit 105 in Tinton Falls.
As of 12:32 p.m., there are delays on Route 9 from north of Route 88 to Prospect Street in Lakewood.
As of 11:38 a.m., there is a 4-mile delay due to volume in the southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway from Exit 109 in Middletown to north of Exit 105 in Tinton Falls.
As of 11:15 a.m., there is heavy traffic on NJ 72, east of the Garden State Parkway, in Stafford to Shore Ave in Ship Bottom.
As of 11:09 a.m., there are delays on NJ 36 West between Navesink Ave in the Highlands and Sandy Hook (Sea Bright).
Rt. 36 North in Sea Bright
As of 11:09 a.m., there’s heavy traffic on NJ 36 North between Rumson Road in Sea Bright and NJ 71 inWest Long Branch.
Rt. 34 South in Wall
As of 11:09 a.m., there are delays on Rt. 34 South between Paynters Road and NJ 70.
Rt. 35 South
As of 11:09 a.m., there are delays on Rt. 35 South between Union Ave in Brielle and NJ 35/NJ 88 in Point Pleasant.
Traffic heading over the Route 36 bridge from Highlands to Sandy Hook is already at a crawl before 8:30 a.m.
Shark River bridge
The Shark River Drawbridge on Route 71 between Belmar and Avon by the Sea in Monmouth County is currently closed for emergency repairs. Motorists are urged to use alternate routes.
Rt. 70 in Manchester
There’s construction on NJ 70 westbound in Manchester Township. The right lane is closed.
