Here is my conversion from high water use grass to gravel and native plants in the Phoenix Arizona area. This took me an entire summer to complete and the final pic shows the baby plants which will eventually be much larger and I will also put in more when I can afford it. These plants attract bees, hummingbirds, butterflies and other birds and are very fragrant and non toxic to pets. I also converted the back yard. Now here's the bonus to this conversion: My town has a program to support grass-to-gravel conversions by giving a cash rebate based on how many square feet of grass you get rid of. I got a $3,000 rebate! This was slightly less than it cost me to do the conversion, mainly due to the cost of gravel and the gravel labor but this really offset my cost.

I look forward to the year 2 and 3 photos. And you get to stop trying to convince the grass that Arizona is really just a hot corner of Kentucky!
