A SELF-TAUGHT gardener has won a gold award at a flower show after creating a breathtaking display.

Samantha Stringer, who is a hairdresser from Padgate, found her passion for gardening while renovating her first home.

Despite having no qualifications in the horticultural industry, Samantha won a silver medal at Tatton Flower Show.

Now, the 32-year-old has created a showcase garden for BBC Gardeners World Live in Birmingham.

Samantha used perennials including salvias, grasses and dahlias to help create her breathtaking pink display.

The 32-year-old received a gold medal for her work, and she hopes that her success will inspire other beginner gardeners to give it a try.

“I was awarded a gold medal for my efforts, which is amazing as I have zero qualifications in the industry,” she said.

“I had very positive feedback from my garden at the show, many commenting it was their favourite which is always nice to hear.

“I also won runner up on the people’s choice, which is based on public votes – I was also invited to go back and create another one.”

Samantha shares her gardening journey on an Instagram page called @insammysgarden_ where she helps show beginners how to garden and has more than 14,000 followers.
