This is a genista racemosa. I think common names are either sweet broom or canary island broom. It seemed to have all the right characteristics of bonsai. Incredibly tiny leaves, backbuds everywhere, woody. Yet i never see anyone talk about them.

Ive seen several threads about how much people hate them though throughout several plant subreddits. I think scotch broom is to blame? But they still seem like they would make nice broom style bonsais (fittingly). I am eager for spring when i can repot this guy into better soil.

I can see where you’re going with it. It’s just a bit too plant than tree for me, so that’s why I would pass. Good luck with it though

  2. I’ve tried. They seem to die back sporadically and unpredictably which made it tough for me to

I love them, but they’re so finicky and I can’t keep them alive.
