In this video, I’m sharing one calm day in the garden- – from morning light to golden hour, plus what’s still to come.

Three years ago, this was just a plain patch of grass. Now, it’s becoming our very own Japanese-inspired garden — a peaceful backyard sanctuary we’re building slowly, one tree and one stone at a time. 🌿

Jeremy, my partner (and the true green thumb of the house), has poured his heart into creating this space. From rescuing maple trees to hand-placing each stone, this garden is a labor of love and a work in progress. I’m mostly here for the cozy vibes and to cheer him on when I’m not inside baking. 😉

[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Good morning! It’s time to show you what
we’ve been working on for several years, Three years in fact, and that is our Japanese
garden. Our Japanese garden started off as a very blank canvas. In fact, it was just all flat
and green. Jeremy is the mastermind behind this whole garden. He is the one that’s really been
doing all the work. I’ve lent a helping hand a couple of times. I do the baking while he does the
gardening those are our interests but of course I love coming out here to see the progress he’s
made we rescue a lot of these trees from people who don’t want it in their yard anymore so I’ve
joined Jeremy a couple times on rescuing those trees sometimes I’ll see a tree and I’ll have
a very fond memory this is the very first tree that we rescued it’s actually my second or third
favorite tree here because of the very vibrant coloring on the leaves it’s so pretty okay last
place I’ll show you this morning is my favorite little cozy corner that is right here next to
this really cool bendy pine tree i love this pigota right there and I really like how Jeremy
laid out these steps i don’t know if they’ll be here forever cuz I think a pond is going to go
somewhere around here but for now my cozy corner [Music] [Music] all right it is now afternoon sun is
shining it’s a gorgeous day outside it is 56° this is a thermal sweater so yikes
i’m pretty hot right now so Jeremy outlined to me the order in which he’s fixing up his garden
number one is landscaping which is almost done number two is structures number three is water
features number four is lights so he’s almost done with landscaping and he’s about to start
all the structures if it’s not obvious we are working on getting our fence replaced right
now there used to be a wire fence there and now we’re getting a cedar wood fence that’s
actually going up in the next couple days so excited let’s go take a look at what the future
of our Japanese garden is going to look like [Music] louder [Music] [Music] it is now sunset in the garden 52° even right now
and I thought I’d bring out the mastermind of the project since I’ve been talking about him and
not showing him much i can usually find Jeremy in the evenings in the garden because that’s when
he’s usually busy working i have found him there he is can you tell me like your inspiration for
the garden or what you’re trying to achieve with this yeah I mean originally I just wanted to
replace an empty grass lawn um but I kind of turned this into my study garden so I kind of
tried to explore as many of them as possible in this one garden so it’s um a strolling garden a
tea garden a courtyard it’s also a collection of um Japanese maples then there’s a a fifth secret
purpose to it which I haven’t said much about ooh secret purpose as far as a collection goes I
currently have about 80 varieties of Japanese maples what’s your goal I guess for endgame
um I have to double check but I think if I if I wanted to make it a official arboritum um
I think I might need I think I already have enough to do that actually but if I wanted
to make it a level two registered arboritum I think I need like 100 or 120 varieties and
I’m probably close or already have that so yeah I can’t pick my favorite part of the garden
i can show you a couple of my favorite trees i do like this the composition of this even
though what’s behind it isn’t very pretty um and I have a lot of rock work to do here
but these are some of my favorite trees over here that’s why they’re up front i really love
Koto-no-ito um I really love this ghost dancer and um this Murrayana pine i call old man Murrayana he’s
got a cane to keep him upright i’m excited about some of these trees over here that haven’t leafed
out yet they’re new you can also see one of my favorites there by the front of the house is Ikandi
it’s a play on eye candy and you get it real close you can see why it’s such a pretty tree oh wow
yeah look at the leaves on that yeah it just has the best variegation like at various points in the
year they look different watching this garden grow has been one of the most peaceful parts of our
life here and it’s all thanks to Jeremy his vision his care and the hundreds of quiet hours he’s
spent out here have turned a plain grassy patch into something truly special he’s made our home
feel cozy not just inside but all around us thanks for spending a little time with me in our garden
today i can’t wait to see what it becomes next [Music]

  1. They say magic isn't real
but you walk out your door and are transported to a Japanese countryside
    A slice of serenity
    in an otherwise barren land

  2. I kinda miss fog. Heh I live in Arizona now where I hardly ever get to see it, but I grew up in Spanaway, WA where we had plenty of it.

  3. Amazing design and such thoughtfulness. I had a 1/4 acre which includes a house and garage so not as much land to plant, but also have an Asian inspired garden including a large koi pond. I have goldfish which started from some feeder fish from Petco to make sure the pond was viable and then i progressed to koi. But head’s up, the Nextdoor app/website is amazing for all those families with a fish that outgrew the tank so you can find them for freeeee. Would love to see more updates for inspiration!

  4. Whoa this is amazing! Can you loan jeremy for the summer to my mom in texas? They would get along like a house on fire.
