I got this bear paw plant back in April and it was bright green with lots of paws in various growth stages (more than shown in picture). It was doing really well till now. I placed it in front of a window where it got bright indirect light in the mornings and intense direct afternoon sun. I waited till the soil was completely dry before watering it thoroughly (once per week or once every two weeks (rarely)) but 1-2 paws started to fall each week since the beginning of June. At first I thought that the plant was shedding damaged paws (the ones that fell in the beginning had scarred tissue) but then baby paws and healthy older ones started to fall too.
I may have waited too long to water them during this month and it’s summer here with really high temperatures. Suddenly in one night all of the paws fell and now it’s bare. Also the base of the stems wasn’t always brown and woody. When I bought it was bright green. That was the first sign that something was happening.
I cleaned the roots of the plant with water and placed it in new soil in the same pot as before and I’m not suspecting any infections by pests.
Is my plant beyond saving and what went wrong?

What happened to the roots? Did they look healthy or rotten?
What kind of soil are you planting it in? I just repotted mine last night. They need very gritty, fast draining soil.
You watered too often. The soil should dry out completely and stay dry for a couple of weeks before you water again. The soil should dry in less than a week.
The leaves look like they are about to burst. Let them go back to normal at least before you water again.
