I covered my soil with chopped leaves in the fall & I left it in place after planting this year…now I'm having a terrible problem with spider mites. Any thoughts?
I’m thinking this may work better in less humid environments. Where I live, it’s so humid, I like to say you need to “grow gills” every summer and I’m constantly pruning to give my plants more air flow. The powdery mildew comes for us with a vengeance 🫠

If you increase the available nutrients by a third or better, sure. Your plants still have competition and stress, its just from each other.
