I recently set up this terrarium and included a waterfall down the driftwood “tree” I made. I noticed that it is starting to have moldy spots… I’m not sure how to clean that?
This terrarium is a WIP for my tree frogs. I have added springtails and isopods already… should I add more to take care of the mold? Is there something I should treat the wood with?
My cat just died unexpectedly yesterday, so I am stunned and having a hard time researching on my own. I didn’t expect it to mold so much/so quickly/maybe even at all? so I’m just overwhelmed.
Thanks in advance. I really appreciate your input.

I’m sorry to hear about your loss. Mold is part of your new terrarium cycling, and once your ecosystem balances out, the mold will run its course. The mold will probably last a few weeks, but it will eventually resolve. Just make sure you aren’t misting too much and your drainage is good.
I’m so sorry about your cat. But your terrarium is just fine. You’ve added water to a natural environment, so things will grow, which is what happens in nature. It will take time for a natural balance to settle in. You don’t have to do anything about it, just let it do its thing.
