Members of the Gateway Garden Club met for the first meeting of the new garden club year at the home of Mary Duke on June 12. We were very happy to accept two ladies into the club’s membership and to have the nine-year-old granddaughter of one of our members as well at the meeting.
During the business meeting, members were reminded of their responsibility to complete the various assignments given by the Berkeley Council. These assignments include planting and watering the many beautiful flower planters in the Berkeley County War Memorial Park, clean and trim the two Blue Star Memorial beds at the Interstate 81 rest stops and maintain each club’s own projects found throughout the county. These include, to name a few, the large planter at the intersection of Queen and King streets and the refurbished courtyard at Celebration Villa Assisted Living Home.
After enjoying the delicious refreshments prepared by Lynn Gibson, the group created lovely bouquets of fresh cut flowers. The bouquets were arranged in glass jars adorned with yellow ribbon and delivered to four local nursery homes for the residents to enjoy. Hopefully they will enjoy looking at them as much as we enjoyed creating them.
Garden clubs are a great way to meet new people, learn new things and stimulate one’s creativity.
