David Domoney is back to surprise another viewer with a front garden facelift. This week the team will be in Cwmbran in South Wales where daughter Sarah has nominated her mum Heather. The family were left devastated following the death of Heather’s grandson who was killed while on military duty in Afghanistan in 2009. Heather has been a pillar of support for the family and now Sarah wants to give her a big thank you with this surprise.

no but now he is the handy horiculturalist who is on a mission to give one deserving viewer the garden of their dreams
but will David Dominique manage to transform Heather’s front garden by the end of today’s show i don’t know
he is battling the heat and the clock
how you getting on David well we’re doing really well we’re we’re clearing out would you find anything buried in gardens now we’re just chucking a lot of the rubbish that we cleared out into carefully skip hard they’ve given us one of these bags but come and take a look you know it looks as if we’re in the middle of a flower show just in the alleyway as we get in towards Heather’s house just look at the beautiful we’ve got so much to plant here now here with Liam from Old Railway Line Garden Center what a lovely selection of plants aren’t they how many plants are we going to be putting in that’s about near 150 plants we got today David
150 plants can’t you believe it well thank you Liam right we’ll just crack on keep coming around the corner here take a look there’s lots of activity taking place look at it here at the minute we’re staining the fences we’re digging the borders how we getting on with the fence Danny hey we’re doing all right on that front so the thing is it’s bringing color in making things nice and crisp as well and Mac and Paul here you guys I have to say have done a marvelous job getting those window boxes up there from MMA Limited you doing all right lads
yeah it’s not good it’s about taking areas that were just brick work and that pop of color to make all the difference now we’re taking a look down here dan you’re doing something really major dan here is from Slade Contractors but you’re also a friend of the family as well
now this bit here what happened is the council helped with some of the mobility uh um issues for for for Heather and putting paving down but there was a dip here isn’t there Dan and what are you going to put over the top
uh just some decking yeah
so Dean across the front there just to finish it off
that’s going to make such a difference for Heather getting in so there’s loads of activity come through let’s have a quick chat with Heather see how she’s getting on just walk through the house here make sure I’ve not got any muddy boots into the kitchen we’re just coming around here right here we go there oh this is lovely ladies oh sitting down here how marvelous make sure that’s steady i don’t want to end up falling into your lips here that’s what it’s called
it’s gorgeous isn’t it it is it’s lovely
and your lovely eye here behind as well
yeah it is nice isn’t it i didn’t like it at first but now it’s sort of grown across it looks really nice
it is it sort of lends yourself what does a garden mean to you then Heather
oh a lot because I don’t go out very much now and I spend most of my time in the lounge looking out at the at the garden and I love a garden i love the colors of the flowers and the different seasons

it is it’s beautiful especially out the front now remind me again why did you recommend your mom what was the main thing
um because she hasn’t had it easy um throughout her life you know there’s been some troubles and things like that and but she’s always been a constant support for me um we’ve gone through a lot losing James my son mom’s grandson and she’s put up with me and and how I’ve dealt with things and I just think that I couldn’t have done it without her and I just want her to know that she’s loved and
you deserve something really special everybody’s working so hard out there i haven’t even got time for a cup of tea so I better get back out there at the minute oh is that for me
that’s for you yes

yeah all morning David and that team have been hard at work and it is finally time for the big reveal
so here’s what Heather’s garden looked like earlier which was quite nice actually
yeah lovely grass there and here’s what it looks like now

david you did it it’s amazing isn’t it there’s so many plants and people don’t appreciate just how important front gardens are that they welcome you when you come home and of course they send you off with the day as well beautiful plants and lovely garden makes a difference of course there was a lot of hard work going into that first of all let me do a shout of thanks to Liam Matt and the team from Old Railway Line Garden Center they put so many plants in there and of course Mac and Paul as well from Eminem mac Limited these guys are the man’s doing great and of course the friends of the family as well friends of uh Heather and Sarah too including Dan and Kyle uh from Slade Contracting they have done great with the uh with the decking and of course it was mentioned earlier on that Sarah’s uh son which is Heather’s grandson uh died in Afghanistan as he was serving with the Royal Welsh Regiment and as soon as the Royal Welsh regiment heard about it they sent a team to help with the garden for Heather too so a big round of applause they’ve done a huge amount of work there really great especially good when it is of course Armed Forces Day next week as well so what do you reckon should we get bring them out get them to see what the uh garden is
the garden is Okay okay okay are we ready are you ready come on come and have a look come and have a look give me your hand here Heather come and have a look and see what we’ve got for you here oh look look look look oh that’s amazing oh
it’s so beautiful yes so we put the poppies in there in memory of James
oh that’s wonderful
you had one in there and these other little poppies here are for water for the birds and the bees that visit the garden too oh that’s that’s absolutely amazing
now tell me again Sarah why why did you recommend your mom for the makeover
cuz she’s just a lovely human and she’s been there for me all my life and especially when we lost James um and I probably wasn’t always that easy to deal with or live with um but she was always just there for me and I just wanted something special for for my mom
a give her a kiss how lovely come and have a little look at the garden there that’s all right walk up here with me so we we’ve lined either side of the path little tyrellas and salvas
oh how lovely some hydrangeas in there as well
i love those i love hydrangeas
so what’s this going to be like sitting inside looking out onto the garden
oh amazing because I spend so much time sitting in there and looking out and before it was just the grass this is going to be amazing
oh you deserve it you deserve it i’ve got a nice bench for you to come and sit down on here

on just behind you Heather a little plaque
now Sarah tell us a little bit about Pam well you were spoken about James
um so Pam is my mom’s sister um who passed away um four and a half years ago um and they were really really close um so it’s just a little memory for for them as well
and it’s perfect for you to sit outside and enjoy the garden everybody has done so well there’s one last big thing of course to put up this garden has had a front garden this morning faceelift how lovely all together are you comfortable here very much so this is lovely it really is oh bless you
