it’s a rainy day here in Texas and while it’s not raining right now let’s take a quick walk around the garden and show you guys everything that’s growing right now last month we had started a lot of new warm season crops a lot of stuff was just coming into maturity and now I want to show you guys anything new all of these updates and I’ll show you guys what’s going again in case you’re new to our channel hey what’s up my name is Brooke and I’ve been a Texas Master Gardener for two years and we’ve been gardening for many more years than that i can’t wait to show you our garden because it’s always a highly requested video and so this year I said that every month I would post a brand new garden tour so you guys are always seeing what is latest and greatest in our garden this time I’m going to actually start at the back of the garden and work my way up to the front so as you can see we do have the cover off of the greenhouse right now there’s nothing growing in there um right now there’s nothing even on the shelves other than just some old trays and pots that have nothing in them um we took the cover off after a windstorm sort of blew it apart way off and we just decided we were going to take it off for the summer um cuz we’re not going to use it it gets too hot here anyway and so we just took it off and we put it in the shed for until it gets cool and then there’s our apple tree still doing well and then up here in pots which I’m I’m planning on moving these either in beds or in the ground i think I’m going to move them into beds um I have a few tomato plants these are those micro dwarf tomato plants that I’ve been growing so there was five of them i’ve already moved one but I need to move these other three so the first three in the black pots here are fat frog so they are these really pretty yellow cherry sized tomatoes we’ve been harvesting a lot of these and they’re really really good um so as you can see it’s sort of rooting all over the stem because it’s sort of fallen over which is what happens with tomatoes they root on the stem like that when they have contact with soil um so my plan is is I really just need to move them and get them put in and put them up in cages and then in this last pot here this is an ink spot tomato um so these are purple they’re almost like a purple reddish color like this also very good they seem to be slightly smaller than the fat frogs but still really really good and I need to move this one as well and then behind me they’re working on getting this area weeded out but we have beets there and beans here we’ve been harvesting there’s a chicken we’ve been harvesting a lot of beans so those are wax beans um they’re pretty much fizzling out now but we were harvesting probably a pound and a half uh like a couple times a week so we were getting like three two or three lbs a week off of these plants um but they’re starting to fizzle out now that it’s getting hot and I think I’m soon probably going to pull them up and put another kind of bean there instead or put something else there in general and then the only other thing we have in here is the blackberry bushes um so everything else is just weeds um which is fine not a big deal so here’s one of the blackberry bushes this is an OA blackberry we’ve been harvesting off of these this is the first time that they’re producing um it’s their second year so these were planted in fall 2023 as you can see they’re producing lots of really pretty berries um and then we have another one right back there and then that is our four-year-old plant that I’ll show when we get around to the other side we also have zenyas spaced out in certain different parts of the garden they’ve been helping with the bees uh random tribe plant this is also a very weedy area um there’s a couple of tomatoes back here in the weeds if you can you can start seeing there’s one there and there another zenya plant right there and then in this bed here which this was a bed a new bed that I was trying out this year um it has like this pretty hanging roof so we have the pole beans which have been producing and we’ve been harvesting off of those and then on top of that so I’ve just been sort of training them by the way to go like this and then on top of that I put the hot peppers in the middle so these are all different kinds of hot peppers i think we have I want to say that we have Kion jalapeno and maybe something else these are just about ready to harvest y’all look at that hot pepper honestly this smells like maybe it’s jalapeno i’m trying to tell by the smell i think maybe it’s a jalapeno but they’re all getting ready to start producing which is super exciting hot peppers have never been like our greatest strong suit in the garden but I’m excited for them this year it looks like they’re going to be good our back from the dead blueberry bushes are still looking pretty good they look like they’re probably going to make it as long as they survive this summer I think that they’ll be good here’s the one that was looking much worse um but they’re starting to look better they’ve got leaves now so that’s always a good sign and I think that they’ll make it as long as if they make it through this summer which I hope that they will well I think they’ll be okay right here is mom’s favorite our Asian pear tree look at all of this gorgeous fruit it’s got going on that’s always exciting to see so I think this is in its third or fourth year somewhere around there um but look at that fruit it’s absolutely beautiful this is the first year it’s ever tried to put on fruit it did flower yes last year but did not fruit so I think it was finally strong enough to put on some fruit this year which is amazing um and I think I decided that we’re probably just going to leave it on and see where it goes and then here’s our elderberries i think last month they were a lot of them were flowering oh look at this i think those are Joshua’s bees guys they look like them they’re so happy they love the elderberries oh look and they have pollen on their legs can you guys see that see see that little yellow dot on that bee that’s pollen isn’t that amazing so yeah this was mostly flowers I think but now it’s turning into a lot of what looks like this and this is berries starting so these are the little green berries starting that’s after the flowering period um oh my word I love seeing all the bees i’ve never seen so many bees in the garden we have way more bees than we’ve ever had in the garden ever and it’s amazing and I’m so happy already with our pollination results i mean look at that there’s no way that those are not Joshua’s bees there’s way too many of them but yeah it’s a lot more fruit now a lot more berries going on here look at that big cluster we are going to have so many berries guys and don’t worry I’m going to be giving youall lots of recipes to try so yeah I’m so excited and this is all from like these these really big ones there’s only two of them there’s one here and one over there and there’s only two of these really really big ones and so that’s always so exciting we got our first harvest of elderberry last year and this is going to be an even bigger harvest so I’m not even sure if I’m going to have to go out and forage for berries like I normally do right here near elderberries is this trellis um this is a new trellis that I’m trying out this year um and I decided to do cucumbers on one side because a lot of people said that if you put cucumbers on these it bends the frame and so for sake of trying this out I decided okay we’re going to put cucumbers on one side and then on the other side cuz I had gotten this trella for my lofah that I wanted to do this year and so I had to at least put lofah on one side and the lofah is actually doing really good this is the lofah right here so it’s climbed all the way up to here um and there’s lofah plants all the way down this trellis we got one here one here um so that’s really really exciting there’s some lofah laying down there that I can bring up towards the trellis then too i’m excited to maybe get our first lofah harvest ever so I actually got the lofah seeds from a friend who had given me a box of lofah that she had left over from last year and so I had taken those and I harvested the seeds from them and that’s how I got these lofah seeds and so I’m very excited i like getting the seeds that were already used in Texas because I feel like that they just do better and then here is our pickling cucumber plants yay i have other cucumber plants but these are the only producing ones right now cuz they were planted the earliest and so these are the ones that you see that we’re harvesting from in the harvest videos um there’s one down there right right here and so I need to have I need to take all this plant and put it up on the trellis um but there’s probably quite a few plants here and they’ve started working their way up the trellles which is nice i just need to train them a little bit more it is starting to bend this netting down but this netting is not what I’m testing cuz if this netting breaks this netting is pretty cheap and easy to replace i am testing the actual frame strength of this trellis with these cucumbers next up is everyone’s favorite Swiss chard plant that is being eaten so I have not actually had the chance to diagnose this and figure out what was going on to me it looks like probably some sort of caliper um which is it’s fairly easy to treat i probably need to come out here at night and check it cuz a lot of times you don’t see these things until night um but it does look like caliper damage possibly i don’t see any aphids so I’m thinking caliper um but it’s not really a big deal this plant has survived much worse and uh we’ll take care of it probably soon i’m just hoping that I don’t accidentally eat a cipitter in my chart next up is this bed of pepper plants so this is a bed of a couple of pretty bell pepper plants i forget what I think they’re either red or green or something and then because we had some extra space here we also threw in a I think this is a zucchini or a squash plant of some sort you can tell I don’t label things and then in the bed neighboring it we have zucchini this is definitely a zucchini right here um zenyas which by the way the bees love love love these zenyas they’ve been really enjoying them a couple more bell pepper plants um I think that’s it so far this was used for onions earlier in the year and I’m glad that’s starting to fill out with some warm season crops and then in this grow bag right here I have a tomato that needs staked up we still have not caged any of our tomato plants even though we have all the cages which by the way I’ll leave link down below we built these $2 cages last year that worked amazing and I want to use them again um I just got to find the time to put them together and get them over here and staked up but I’ll leave that link down below for you guys then over here is our potatoes and grow bag harvest um I need to put more straw on these because they’re actually still doing sort of okay and I don’t want to harvest them yet um because they are still doing okay so I don’t want to really touch them yet i want to just add more straw and see if we can get more from these and then in the bed there’s a bed behind these grow bags that the potatoes are sort of covering that has a zenya plant um and it has an eggplant um and otherwise the potatoes are just sort of laying in this bed so I’ve been procrastinating planting anything else in here until we get the potatoes out cuz they’re just going to you know block it see what I mean so I’m waiting until we get the potatoes out to do anything else with that these are the grow bags that I was doing lettuce in um but I need to replant in those i was waiting until the lettuce was done we chopped the lettuce out probably earlier this week so I just need to find something else to plant in there and then in this bed we grew onions and carrots which are done right now so about maybe a week or two ago I planted more cucumbers so these are going to be slicing cucumbers in this bed so that’s exciting i love love love cucumbers they’re really really easy to grow and then here’s a tomato in a grow bag so I have these 10gon grow bags which by the way I love these grow bags i actually just got more that are on their way i’m not sure what I’m going to plant in them yet now that it’s so getting so late in the season already um but I couldn’t pass up they were on such a great deal so had to grab more grow bags um but I got more of the 10 gallon ones i did get them in a different color though cuz I wanted to see what the difference was um we have a lonely zenya right here we just sort of had zenyas sprout out all over the garden this year cuz we had so many we’ve got pole beans more pole beans pole beans another easy one to grow this is a Roma tomato right here um a huge massive zucchini plant you can see it there um I’m honestly wondering if this isn’t two zucchini plants but I was pretty sure there was only one so here’s all the flowers on the inside which by the way the bees have been loving these flowers too love love love love love these flowers and then here is another tomato plant which I need to cage up so bad there’s like two here there’s one here and one there um and that one is a Roma i’m not sure on the variety of this one i think it’s cherry i think I see some cherry tomatoes and then there’s another Roma tomato back there um here we have another eggplant yay i’m so happy my eggplant made it past the baby stage this year um which is so exciting i don’t know why eggplant was was was one that I was worried about but these are actually really cool um we have nesters nesters um a random volunteer potato plant couple more random potato plants some either I think that’s cantaloupe and then this is cucumber back here so I planted cantaloupe and cucumbers in this bed as well to grow out um cuz we also had a lot of like radishes and stuff in this bed so you know and then here’s some radish seed pods that’ll be harvested soon all right next up this is this dwarf tomato that I had in that you know the pots of tomatoes I showed you closer to the beginning of the video and I said I had moved one this is the one I had moved so this is a dwarf cucumber tomato um I have been getting some fruit off of it this will be my biggest harvest which I’m going to probably film a garden harvest right after this because I seen a lot of stuff that needs to be picked while I was doing this so this is in a little just a little tomato planter that I’ve been trying out um and by the way if you all are looking for some high quality metal beds I have been using Veggie Godd for probably close to a year and a half now absolutely love them this is one of my oldest ones and you can see it still looks brand new and to make it even better I have a discount code for you guys you can use so make sure you check the top of the description if you guys want to grab some of these um they’ll also help if you live in a more of a northern region you can start earlier in the year and continue to have plants even later than normal cuz it’s going to keep your soil warmer um so yeah highly highly recommend very high quality beds probably going to last you a good 20 plus years which makes me very happy and very well worth it and then I’ve even added two more to the garden this year so I have that one and then I have another one down back further that I haven’t planted in this year yet um as you can see I got more beds than than soil this year so some of them are just going to have to wait until fall i have quite a few beds i’ve got this one that needs filled i’ve got that one which is okay um but yeah I really really like their beds definitely check them out like I said link in the top of the description and then in this bed this is where we had a lot of the onions that we had growing and now that we’ve pulled the onions Jonathan wanted to use this bed to plant some of his sweet corn in hills so this is his sweet corn and if you guys don’t know how to plant sweet corn in hills or corn in hills in general um I’ll leave a link to an article that you guys can read on that down below um but if you plant your corn in hills you don’t need a huge field of it which is makes it very good you can plant them in beds and bags whatever um this is a little bit weedy um but he has this corn in here which is very very nice and then obviously we have the grape vines how exciting so there’s the one grape this is the one grape that’s producing fruit here’s what they look like um let’s see they have a lot of fruit on them it’s just a matter of if I can find it or not um it’s still looking pretty good i think we’re going to lose some of the fruit which was to be expected so see some of it’s doing this where like it gets all crumpled up almost like a raisin um but so far a lot of it is still looking pretty good um it’s still on the smaller side which I expected for something like this see it’s it’s doing this where it sort of turns brownish which is okay i’m not sure what that is but this is our first year really having grapes so I’m not sure yet on a lot of this stuff um but we’ll have to see cuz there is still a lot of grain on here so I’m thinking we’ll probably still get some um but if anyone you know has any more knowledge on grapes and wants to share in the comments please feel free to um but so far the vines themselves are extremely healthy i don’t see any like signs of disease sickness anything like that this is the main stem of it you can see how thick it’s gotten but a lot of these grapes are only in their second year for so them for them to have so much growth on them is amazing this is a random planter that I just put some weird things in in spring um so we have uh tomato plants one tomato plant potato plants which I know you’re not supposed to put together but hey again this was just like I had an extra seed potato I had an extra tomato seedling that kind of stuff um a zenya which by the way the bees love the zenyas um and there’s a maragold down here too so it was pretty much just like when I had extra of something that I needed to put somewhere it went in that bin um this bin hasn’t been doing amazing and I think for one reason it gets a ton of shade here and all of these plants except for the potatoes like the sun love love love love love the sun here so I think it’s in too much shade so maybe I won’t use that for stuff that wants a lot of sun next time then in Joshua’s pallet beds you can say hello to the chickens and the turkeys and the geese you’ve probably been hearing the entire time um in Joshua’s pallet bed we also did have onions in this but there’s no more onions in it anymore so we just have this mini chocolate bell pepper plant which I’m hoping to harvest from in the near future honestly I feel like I could pull some of these i’m waiting though um I think the cat keeps getting some of the peppers too and then we have a Zena and then when we pulled out all of the onions Joshua put in some of this Swiss chard that he started so we got some here some here and some here i believe that this is the Fort Hook Giant variety just like um the other one that we have down there i like this stuff it’ll survive through the summer so you can have greens all summer even if you live in a hotter climate this bed doesn’t have anything in it and then this bed is watermelons and I believe this is cantaloupe i’m pretty sure that this is cantaloupe again we we don’t mark stuff a lot of times um but watermelon watermelon watermelon and then I believe cantaloupe hi Tommy oh he’s busy he’s going to be mean to the rooster now peach trees it’s time to show the peach trees i think some of the peaches are actually starting to turn color not on this tree um on another tree so there’s the peaches on this tree this tree is an earlier v or a later variety so the peaches on this one you see back there these are smaller than the other tree as to be expected um there’s lots and lots of peaches on this tree this tree is huge ginormous bigger than the other tree which is surprising considering and then this tree is the one with the fruit that’s probably soon ready to pick so we’ve got all that up there like I feel like that some of this Oh yeah that’s actually ready to pick oh guys watch my latest garden harvest if I’ve already posted I’m going to leave it link down below because we’re going to harvest some peaches oh I’m so excited and they’re actually pretty big this is you guys know this is our first year harvesting peaches four years four years of hard work for this four years anyway there’s a bird nest there that sort of they put it in the middle of the peaches i I don’t know why um ah we have so many peaches yes some of it has like the black spots on it which is it’s fine you just peel the skin off and you can eat it anyway um but how exciting oh I’m so excited guys there’s so many look at all the fruit look at all that fruit okay this stuff’s get this tree is getting harvested today for sure getting harvested as soon as I’m done here this tree is getting harvested oh I’m so excited i’m going to need like a ladder or something i cannot reach all this and then over here is where John has planted his popcorn so I don’t know i believe that is the popcorn it’s a little wet in there but he’s also planted this in hills so you can see where he has the corn planted it is very wet over here right now we had a lot of rain the last couple of days so that’s why you see all the puddling water everywhere uh but this has to be like way far away from the sweet corner also cross-pollinate so we have it all the way over here near our cows and bees and in that field right there with Joshua’s bees is watermelon there’s also zenyas in there too but there’s watermelon um Joshua is weeding around the plants but he’s not weeding this whole field so um and I’m not going in there to show you so believe me don’t believe me there’s watermelon in there i’ve probably shown it in other videos all right so here’s our plum tree that we never show because it’s normally like this covered in the Texas native weeds i’m honestly surprised that it’s lived this long um I I really am because we literally do not take care of this tree like at all we never come over here or anything every like once in a great while probably like two or three times a year someone will weed eat this area and mow this area and it’ll be free of weeds for like a little bit but there it is and it’s actually it’s actually doing really well it looks amazing i’m honestly surprised it looks better than some of the plants that I have been taking care of so all right so this area was recently weeded which is why the mess they recently got actually got it all weeded up and ready to go so this is the four-year-old blackberry bush there’s some Johnson grass back in there and that is just like a patch of like probably 20ome zenyas um that’s where we had them last year and they just came back like crazy and we couldn’t move them all so whatever right they’re feeding the bees i’ll just leave them back there i’m not even using that place anyway so this is the 4-year-old blackberry bush and we’ve been harvesting like crazy off of this and as you can see there’s so many blackberries we need to harvest more um but it’s about this time that you guys are going to see a lot of this new growth on your blackberry bushes um and this is good you want to leave that stuff because that’s your fruing branches for next year so once your blackberry bushes are done with these fruing branches they’re going to die and these will continue to grow the rest of the year even bigger and better than your last ones and those are your fruing branches for next year which is exciting so don’t be alarmed if you see a lot of your blackberry bush dying um after it fruits this is totally normal all the fruing branches are going to die um and then in this bed we haven’t added anything else but I finally we were able to get around to weeding it which is a good thing cuz it needed weeded really bad um this squash plant has squash bugs so I’m going to bring somebody down to take care of that um but it does also have flowers on it um so maybe we’ll get some squash out of this so far I haven’t lost any plants to squash bugs it’s just the matter of getting someone down here to take care of them look see there’s one and then we also have eggs so I’m going to bring someone down here to take care of this it takes a little while little time um the pepper plants need a little TLC after they were weeded i realized it could just be because there was a lot of weeds in here and they were really high um but they need a little TLC um for sure i mean look at this i think I’m going to start with just like maybe a dose of magnesium sulfate that is not a purple beauty bell pepper this was supposed to be a purple beauty this happened to us last time or a couple of years ago where we we got all these purple beauties from a nursery and they weren’t purple beauties i think it’s happening again and this isn’t even the same nursery that’s crazy that’s not a purple beauty what do you know okay so these are also I see purple beauty and that one is definitely 100% not um this is white patty pan squash there’s three of them um definitely need someone to take care of the squash bugs i see eggs lots of eggs so we definitely need to take care of that and then in this bed there was garlic which they pulled up when they weeded we got some garlic there was also a underground crittering in this bed in particular which is why it’s such a mess um digging up the garlic so we lost a lot of the garlic to them um which is sad but it happens and then we have celebrity tomatoes celebrity tomatoes i think that’s it we really need to plant out the rest of this bed but once we finish getting it weeded we will it’s finally weeded to like a safe like they’re not choking plants out anymore um but this area was extremely weedy like so so so weedy um and I think it was just because we didn’t have a lot of plants in here and we just weren’t taking care of it like the other ones were more important to us than this area there’s nothing in that bed so I’m not even worried about that right now although we’ll probably take care of that soon and then our meat chickens they’re on the other side of the fence dad put the rose bush he made it very very small and thin but it does still have some pretty patches of flowers over here in the herb garden or in the front of the house garden we’ve got parsley this is a pretty easy one to grow i think we’ve been growing this for like the last two years um super easy to grow green soups and stuff um a zenya cuz of course we have so many of them and then we have the tanzy which has grown enormously and there’s tons of those pretty yellow flowers to grab comfrey which I seriously I just need to split this thing it’s that’s one plant one comfry plant um yo that’s one plant but it’s gotten much bigger since last year bergammont which we thought was dead but it came back so that’s always nice we don’t really use it for a lot um I was hoping to get like flowers off of it cuz it’s supposed to be like a heat tolerant lavender sort of um but we have not gotten flowers it’s been like 3 years so I’m hoping maybe we’ll get flowers this year echania purple cone flower this is a Texas like native so this thing grows like crazy here it does really well um we’re getting more flowers than we ever have off of him which is great um also the bees like echania our purple cone flour you can use the entire plant to make like tinctures and stuff so love love love echynatia grows really well here if you’re in Texas do purple cone flour totally worth it feverw this is also one that’s actually done pretty well here um you do have to watch though because feverfw discourages pollinators from your garden so it does not bring in them in that actually discourages them from coming in so just keep that in mind and then of course we have the oregano back here this has also been doing really well here in Texas and we use oregano like crazy and we have not had to buy oregano since we’ve planted this so it just gets bigger and bigger every year and then lastly the peppermint which also tends to get thicker and bigger every single year it also likes to come outside the bed so you see that log that marks the bed it likes to come outside the bed and I like to pull it up but it keeps coming outside the bed which tends to be the case when you put peppermint in the ground so just keep that in mind and peppermint’s going to take over any space that you put it in and I don’t care if you have a black thumb you are not going to kill this and then of course we have the pretty lilac bush which did bloom this year a couple of times actually bloomed a couple of times um it seems to be doing even though this isn’t really for our zone it tends to do better and better every single year um and it looks amazing so it tends to struggle in the winter i think that it’s a zone I want to say it’s a zone 9 or 10 plant so it tends to struggle in the winter a little bit um and the first couple years it like died back to the ground but it came back every single year and now we get pretty lilac brooms every spring for the last couple of years which is nice and then these are some beds that we put in front of our house this year near the herb garden so in these pots Joshua has some cantaloupe going um and then in this bed we have stevia two plants of stevia here and then a lot of sweet potatoes i like to put the sweet potatoes in these the front beds i sort of call them like our show beds cuz we do do like we have business done outside the front of our house and so I like to have beds of pretty things and sweet potato vines have always been very pretty to me um cuz they sort of trail and they’ll go over the beds like this and in the summer they’ll have these really pretty like white and purple flowers on them so I like to have them here and I have more slips to put in here as well so I can get the entire around the bed done but that’s what I planted earlier this spring that’s sort of showing off and then in this bed we had a lot of onions which have now been taken out so Joshua did move some zenyas in here and then I think he plans to put something else on this side cuz there’s still room for something else so he he he’s been sort of doing a lot of these he’s done this bed and I’ve sort of done that one so I don’t he’s going to put something else probably there he may even move those cantalopes in which would be okay cuz the vines get pretty big and they’ll fill in this bed pretty well um but he also wanted to move the flowers up here so I like having a lot of the flowers up front as well cuz it it helps and then there’s a cantaloupe flower so that’s what’s growing in our Texas garden in June let me know if you have any questions down in the comments below stay tuned for our garden harvest because we are going to be harvesting those peaches
