There are a lot of pitcher plant trails near the Oregon-California border. The soils are serpentine and I was half-drunk on the summer incense smell of ponderosa pine and madrone.

If you’re in the area, some of the trails are Eight Dollar Mountain, Darlingtonia Natural Site, and pretty much any of the barely noticeable signs that say “Botanical Area”
