  1. Thank you so much for this video, what an eye opener.Been overwatering my plants and even killed some😅

  2. Thank you you’re a great teacher! I used to be an over water. Like an everyday my poor plants! But not now I am testing the soil first

  3. Thank you Luke, if I did the watering of our garden, I’m sure I would overwater it. I’m always thankful when occasional rain shower takes that guessing away.

  4. Looks like you have been doing a lot of work on your new property. Hopefully I haven’t missed any videos showing your progress. Love looking at all your doing! Glad you was able to purchase the land and make your dreams come to life. You look very happy.

  5. You mention checking the moisture levels in the soil. What are your thoughts on moisture meters and if you like them is there one you recommend?

  6. Oooh, this is timely. I've been battling with my mom on this all week. "The plants are all drooping!" Yes because it's 95F out. "They need more water!" The soil is moist by my first knuckle, it's fine. "If you won't water those poor plants then I will!" No you will not, I'm having enough trouble controlling leaf spot and powdery mildew as it is.

But she'll listen to Luke if he says it's fine!

  7. Unrelated topic. Harvested garlic and want to grow the Cormel’s how and when to plant? I’m in California and normally plant my cloves in October?
I find using sheets for shade protection, prevents by tomatoes from wilting and sun scald.

  9. I was guilty of the over watering. I had tomatoes in large containers that would wilt in the heat. I would water and they perked up. Eventually the leaves and vines became spindly and it didn’t produce well at all.

  10. The only plants I worry about are small plants which don’t have much root base. Sometimes I just give a spray of water and wet soil for inch which cools them down and keeps them strong especially if heat and dry weather continues, etc. This keeps plants from shutting down in production. I do agree about wind reaction. I have lot of wind. Securing my tall plants is number one consideration when I start garden.

  11. Don't those metal planting containers make it worse as they absorb heat and radiate it at the plants?

  12. My poppies were wilting pretty bad and I checked the soil and it was really dry. I watered them and 2 hours later they perked right back up so now I know what to look for.

  13. I loved all of the scientific explanations about the plants, so cool. Thank you for all the great info to help. I think I lean on watering because I feel helpless to help my plants!

  14. Well you just answered a question I didn't even get to ask you! I am over watering because I have big plants and no roots!!! I will take my water meter with me to check first!!!

  15. Omigoodness we are getting so much rain in mid Mich! I do containers & all my fertilizer is washing away & my compost tea is 6 wks old & I haven't even used it bc of all the excessive rain. Things are OK tho, about 3 wks behind but we will persevere!😊
