I have this monstera that has reached the top of its moss pole (that I conveniently made upside down so unsure if I can attach another one). Idk if I should try to chop it all up and restart it at the bottom or attempt to add another pole.

Also if anyone has any clue why it’s only putting out white leaves or what’s going on with the new yellowish one, that would be great!

Repot with the correct soil type, provide good drainage in pot bottom,  with bright lighting, or air layer and chop, repot.

Take it out to dinner and see afterwards where that leads us to

Instead of a straight line up the pole, try to gently wrap it around the pole in a spiral up.

The new yellow leaf looks good and healthy. It is trying to put a lot of energy into correcting it’s color pattern.

All white means that those leaves have no chlorophyll (what makes plants green). Plants can only photosynthesize through the areas that have chlorophyll.

The more pigmented yellow leaf coming out, means that it is trying hard to concentrate on boosting chlorophyll for the new growth.

Did you recently feed it or do something differently?
It seems like it liked it.

Overall, I would repot it after about 1 or 2 new leaves that have more color on them, into a pot with a cactus sand/soil mix

All white leaves are cool, but they do indicate the plant isn’t getting something of what it needs and will not be able to support itself. White leaves are times where a lot of energy is spent creating a new solar panel for itself to collect sun, but the panel is faulty. So it only took energy from the plant, and isn’t helping the plant get more back. This cycle will lead to a plants death, so you want to do anything that encourages chlorophyll full leaves.

Whether that be topping the plant, chopping and propping, repotting, feeding, changing its position to get better sun/water/air etc.

Yours is doing so much better in variegation than mine! I have a different species growing into a moss pole. I plan to chop it, remove the bottom most leaf and plant directly in soil. The roots in the moss pole will sustain it until it roots into the soil.

I’m so jealous, pretty sure that is a borsigiana albo monstera the variegation on it is gorgeous 😍

that is actually an epipremnum pinnatum albo, the all white leaves will die back if there isnt a speck of green or two but all white leaves like that ive noticed, are extremely rare. Extend that pole and let it hit 4-6 feet if you can, then chop the top 2ft off and replant that at the bottom of a new pot and let it grow back to 6ft and repeat, you will get *maaaasssssiiiiiveeeee* leaves with amazing fenestration in due time

Id figure out a way to get rid of that stupid moss pole.

  9. This is an Epipremnum pinnatum albo not a monstera.

Also, if that smaller yellow ish top leaf is the most recent, you don’t need to chop the two fully white ones.

That was a good question. And thanks to the comments because you all just gave me an education on this plant.

side note that is the prettiest epi pin albo I’ve ever seen, oh my god she’s absolutely gorgeous. ❤️🥰

These plants are tougher than you think! Whole white leaves are pretty but bad. Cut them off and toss or stick it in water. Mines happy being watered when I notice its pot is light and it sits less than a foot away from a north window.

  13. aww I’m jealous, yours has way more variegation than mine (but it’s not a monstera, it’s a pothos). I keep mine on some wooden stakes but in the same straight-up setup. works fine and my plant is starting to have the same big ass fenestrations that yours also has. super pretty 🙂

OH! The dreaded ALL WHITE LEAVES. I have an Epipremnum pinnatum Albo vine that ALMOST died because it could no longer photosynthesize. It is finally putting out leaves with enough green spots to keep it growing. I actually bought another Albo with several propagations growing & potted them all up Together growing up 1 moss-pole.

That’s a nice Monstera! Where did you buy it? Expensive? I would really like a monstera like that in my collection.

  16. Kill it, not intentional but it would probably happen 😭

preserve the white leaves in resin and turn them into a pair of earrings 🙂
