KĀNEʻOHE, Hawaiʻi (Island News) — Ho‘omaluhia Botanical Garden fell victim to a burglary this week, resulting in several fishing supplies getting stolen from a storage shed.
The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) reported that the storage shed housing supplies for their family fishing program at the botanical garden was burglarized earlier this week. While preparing for fishing on Wednesday, DPR staff discovered the break-in.
The following items were taken from the shed: two brand new tackle boxes filled with fishing supplies, hooks, bobbers, lines, blue tapes, scissors and more.
Although the fishing program was hit by the recent burglary, there are enough supplies to keep it running this weekend. DPR is in the process of working with HIFishGear; the local fishing gear supplier offered to donate supplies in place of the stolen supplies.

“This is turning out to be yet another example of everyone stepping up to offset the selfish and destructive actions of a few, turning a negative into a positive,” said Nate Serota, DPR spokesperson.
