Hello all,

I’m in Alberta, Canada and this year I’ve noticed my lawn growing this weird flower type grass/weed. I am unsure if it’s either or. In the past seasons, I haven’t noticed this. Can anybody tell me what it is? I do hire a company to fertilize and weed control my grass so I’m not sure if they added something this time. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

I’m pretty sure that’s just your grass going to seed

  2. Grass. Cause you’re waiting too long to cut.

    Cut on Tuesday and Friday.

That’s what happens when you have a strong lawn and need to mow a little more often

I am wondering too because of where the leaf attaches to the stem….could this perhaps be quack grass??? Here in Manitoba and suspect I have the same in my lawn

Grass. Probably Kentucky Bluegrass. Sharpen your blades and keep up with mowing.

Ok ok ok .. how often do you cut the grass? Is twice a month not enough? Haven’t had a yard since I was 8.

Silly question will those seeds actually germinate

Going to seed signals the end of the growth spurt from Spring fertilization

Healthy lawn! Going to seed quite evenly. Congratulations.

My favorite weed to pull outta my St. Aug. A real satisfying pull.

Thank you all for the replies. Much appreciated. I usually try and cut my lawn every week or so but lately we’ve gotten a lot of rain and that’s probably expedited its growth. I will mow in the coming days. Thank again!!

Get the app “seek.” You take a picture of it, and it tells you what it is.

  14. I also live in Alberta. I get this too when the lawn gets to long.

  15. I think its poa annua or annual bluegrass. It will die off in a few weeks as temps rise because its annual.
