I asked a while back if getting a gardening mat and a "kiddie pool" (an exaggeration but something big) would be a good idea for a lil bath corner and many people were confused by my vision-
I finally did it so here's a visual; i got a small gardening mat off of Amazon and a 3 gallon feed bucket and it works great! I've got about 12/13 plants in various size pots and I'm able to water all of them within less than a day! I bottom water my plants and before it would take atleast 2 days to do all of my plants (sometimes I get distracted or have to go to into work and they'd get a lil more water than needed but everyone's chilling)
I love it, it's made watering my plants so much easier (that depression shit makes it tough to give them the care they need sometimes), and I just thought I'd update in case anyone remembered this and was curious

Please buy a small rubber duck to live in there. Do this thing for me.
I bottom water all my plants, and while I do usually re-use the water and same saucer I recently passed root mealybugs to one of my other plants through this method.
I have that same green mat! It’s so helpful for indoor stuff
I was just contemplating getting a bin similar to this. Now I really might have to. It really makes sense.
I’m obsessed 😍! Also I loooove the frog statue in your window
Is this because all the plants are large? I have around 60 plants, but the majority of them are in 4 to 8 inch pots, so bottom watering just means keeping all of them in deep saucers and watering right where they sit.
My pets and toddler would muckit up so fast 🥲 I love this idea though
I use moss poles now with water bottles to keep up on the watering but this would have saved so many plants during my grad school years. Great idea!
I use a shallow Sterilite bin. Easy peasy!

I have that mat for the big repotting jobs. Doesn’t stop me getting soil all over the floor though.
Such a good idea, my old roommates used the tub but it left rocks in the tub after and I end up cutting my feet on it
I love this!! Great idea
I’ve done something similar with my mop bucket. I have the Cedar Easy Wring Out and I use the main basin for bottom watering and let them drain where you wring out the mop. I can only do 1 or 2 at a time but now I don’t get water all over my bathroom or counter once they’re done drinking
this is so much more aesthetically pleasing than my dirt covered spare bathtub. kudos
That depression shit is rough – hoping you’ve got tools as good for you as this setup is for your plants!
I will forever love my potted Meyer lemon for making it through some rough patches with me, we were both a little worse for wear there. Sorry I did nothing about the spider mites for a long time, thanks for hanging on till help arrived in the form of effective medicine for me which made neem oil for you actually happen.
Whatcha do to prevent dripping after? Put em back in trays? If so why not just water into the tray (im assuming because you’d need to drain it if it was too much and spend too much time trying to make sure they have enough)
I use disposable aluminum pans for watering – they hold 2 or 3 plants at a time. One for watering and one for draining after. Just stack them up when done.
Great idea
All my plants are in nursery pots within decorative cache pots so I just pour into each cache pot, let ’em chug, and then empty them later.
Adding only if you’re concerned about spreading bugs 🤗
ETA: I too have the clinical blues. Yay us for finding workable ways to do things!
I do the same but with variously sized “deep drip trays” made of clear plastic. This allows me to observe the runoff, reduce cross-contamination, reduce water usage, adjust water height on a plant by plant basis, fertilize the ones that deserve it, etc.
And not needing to store a large bucket, as the drip trays stack into a smaller footprint.
I love this idea!!!
Wait, why would you bottom-water instead of pour water on top?
Please disassemble and don’t leave on the carpet. Do this one little thing for yourself & your security deposit
FEED BUCKET!!!
Thank you so much. I’ve been keeping an eye out for something plastic that I could use as a base for this plant project I have in mind. I know if it’s labeled as for plants it’ll be more expensive. Thank you for this term!!
