LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — The University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s campus garden is hosting its first big vegetable produce sale of the summer, offering a bounty of fresh, organic produce to the public.
Dr. Stephen Grace, the founding director of the campus garden, shared his excitement about the event, which will take place tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“If you want some wonderful, fresh, organic produce, feel free to stop by and we’ll have plenty,” said Grace. He said that the garden has had a successful year, thanks to favorable weather conditions, and recently harvested over 500 pounds of onions.
Grace showcased some of the garden’s impressive produce, including monster beets and a vibrant purple cauliflower. The garden also boasts a variety of peppers and tomatoes, including a favorite called the Harvest Moon.
The campus garden, which started as a small wildflower garden 12 years ago, has grown into a half-acre teaching garden.
“We’re primarily a teaching garden, so we try to teach students, or whoever wants to learn more about gardening, how to do it,” said Grace. He emphasized the importance of providing practical life skills, noting that many students find the experience meaningful.
For those interested in getting involved, Grace encouraged visiting the garden’s website at ualr.edu/garden for more information. The garden aims to connect with students, the university community, and communities throughout Pulaski County.
“Come get some produce,” Grace said.
